So my hubby works in a remanufacturing division for a company that builds those HUGE oil pipeline meters, and sends me this pic:

Asks me what it is, says it crawled out of an oil meter he was taking apart that just came from Texas, assumably Huston since that's where another division is.

Here's another shot:

He says it's "desert camo" colored *Marines:main_rolleyes: * quick as $hit, jumps like crazy, and built like Eros (my leopard gecko) with a small thin tail. It's just a lil fella

Sorry the pix are kinda horrid but hopefully some one will have a guess as to what it is and what we should do with it now that it has been displaced from Texas to craptastic cold Nw Pa.

Ok found this online of a mediterranean geckoa nd hubby says "that's the guy".

What should we do with it now that it's id'd? Release it into Nw Pa or keep it until summer then release it? I knwo the whole foreign species introduction story but I don't really want it to die, which it will if left to fend in hsi shop, and don't want to make it into a pet.

It could also be a house gecko. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemidactylus You'll have to look at it closely, kinda hard to tell from the photo.

I was JUST looking at that before I refreshed this thread. Scary :main_lipsrsealed: A guy at hubby's work is gonna take lil dude home. Says he's had a mediterranean gecko before. Kinda pissed actually... I wanted to let lil dude go in the gardens when the weather got better to make up for the snake I whacked this summer :(

Releasing that gecko in PA would be a death sentence. If he didn't manage to get eaten by something he'd never survive the winter. It should be kept in captivity or sent back down south to be released. They're introduced species yes, but they can't deal with the cold temps of the North Eastern US.

Well looks like I get a second chance at saving one of these lil ones. HUbby tore open another meter from the same place (they musta shipped like 6 huge crates of junk and meters to them to be redone) and low and behold another gecko comes out... smaller than the first but healthy. Needless to say it's comin home today. Then in another meter he found what he described as momma's nest with broken hatched eggs, he said it really stunk. They musta left these meters out in some swampy area he said as they wre all filled with muck mud water and just nasty with rust.

Looks like a Pachydactylus bibronii(Bibron's Gecko) to me.... :)

Definately not. Pachydactylus are larger and much more squat in dimensions. They also have different scalation and markings.

No, I'm positive that's one of the "house gecko" complex, a Hemidactylus, most likely a Mediterranean or a Turkish. Either way, they all have similar care requirements and are introduced species. Easy to keep and breed.
