What NOT to put in a tank?

So is there anything besides the really obvious crap (a cat, bottles of glue, etc) that should never be in a leopard gecko tank?
I was thinking of putting some spider plants in the humid hide to help keep the humidity up there, but thought twice about it because I don't know if spider plants are dangerous to reptiles or not (CC seems to have no problem eating all my baby ones though!) Which inspired me to ask - is there any decorating item that should never ever be in a tank?

I'm willing to bet the first answer you'll be given will start with S and end with D.
That's a really good question though, I'd say anything with a hole small enough for the gecko to get in, and for you to not be able to get it out. (fake hollow rocks, some backgrounds)

That's sort of what I was hoping to avoid with the 'anything obvious' part. I'm speaking more towards the decorating aspect, though.

I don't know enough about plants to say one way or another, but Akayana is right about loose substrates. Other than that, the only thing that came to mind immediately would be a hot rock (the kind you plug in and they heat up for reptiles to bask on).

I make point not to buy commercial stuff like hides etc and I instead go searching in my back yard and out bush to find Rocks, bark and wood that i think would be good in one or more of my enclosures.

If you want to do the same id recommend boiling them first for obvious reasons.

Some live plants can be used. I would recommend looking up a list of non toxic drought tolerant plants you could use(drought tolerant as you don't want to water them too often or the tank will get too wet and humid). if you do buy a couple just make sure to rinse the soil extremely well first to help rid it of any chems and or fertilizer.

The best things to have in a humid hide is Moss but i also find Exo terra plantation soil really good for that.

I believe in keeping the enclosure simple and tidy, the less stuff in there the better. All your animals need is a couple of hides, water bowl and a source of heat.

The more stuff you have in there the greater the chances of you putting feeders in there then never seeing them again. They will find the first place to hide and stay there. Make it easier for your geckos, avoid clutter.

Its just down to common sense really. If you have an idea of putting something in you think would look good, look it up first or just post it here and ask.

Also, nothing that can give off toxic fumes when heated by the UTH
