I have a 40 gallon breeder and $500 to buy what ever I want what should I get??? Pick which one and describe what morph or species!!! I'm literally torn between these 5.... If there's another reptile that will live happily in a 40 it's entire life feel free to tell me about it!!!! I ALSO HAVE A CUSTOM MADE 4X2X2 I can transfer anything in it if it grows out of the 40. NO GECKOS haha I have 5 empty 20GL for them :) Explain why I should get your choice also!!!

I do not think a 40G is big enough for a tortoise or bearded dragon to live it's entire life in. Some of the smaller species of aquatic turtles might work. I do not keep snakes, so no comment on those. I know you said no geckos, but I think a Tokay would work nicely in a 40G. The tank size limits what I would recommend. I prefer large, generous enclosures rather anything toward the minimum end of the spectrum.

Bearded Dragon if you want a reptile that will be connected and close to you there you go. They are amazing and go for a sunburts or sandfire morph they are the best and mines a sunburst and they are usually 200-500 dollars depending on the morphs. 40 gallon breeder will do very good also. Well they are amazing and they are my favorite reptiles. Well good luck Tanner.:D

Well I have a extra Tort table so it would be temporary if I got a new tortoise. And I have a 4X2X2 custom enclosure I could move bigger lizards too!

I'm a big fan of the corn snakes. They're the leopard geckos of the snake world. Tons of cool morphs and wonderful, pliant personalities. The do eat mice, so take that into consideration. Not familiar with the pythons. And though I have two, I don't recommend the milk snakes. They're not as friendly. Corns are a perfect starter snake.
This is my normal morph corn snake, DeKalb. He is sooooo sweet.

If you have a bigger enclosure, then I'll agree with the bearded dragon suggestion. Of all the lizards I've owned, they are some of the most personable and they get big but not too big like iguanas or some of the monitors.

Do you have a source for this? This description is more applicable to an Iguana (minus the pinkies) than to a Chinese Water Dragon, which may grow up to 3 feet, and the diet is mainly whole prey items and insects. Greens/veg/fruit should be a smaller part or the diet.

What a tough, tough decision! You're in a pretty good spot though to be able to make whatever choice you want!
I voted for a beardie, cause that's what I'd get if I was you ;)

Jaizei is right. Chinese water dragons are 2-3 feet max and eat primarily insect with very little veggies; green iguanas can get up to 6 feet long and are strictly herbivores.
