I put mine in the middle too.

I put my water bowl on the cool side so it stays cool, and i keep my eating bowl at the cool end aswel, i dont want to cook the mealworms to death lol

I keep it in the middle only because her cool hide takes up most of the space on the cool side, or I'd put it there. Also she sort of has to maneuver around it to get to the other side of the tank, which sort of reminds her, 'Oh, I should drink this.' I wouldn't put it past her to forget to eat and drink altogether... She's not exactly quick-witted.

I actually have one on either side. I was using one for food but the mealworms were getting out, so I now just use both dishes (one on either side) for water....it works out nice actually

Cool side. If it's on the warm side, it will evaporate quickly and create too much humidity.
