Just fyi, RAs do not make the rules for the dorms, the school does, and the majority have no-pets rules. The RAs could also get in trouble for allowing you to break the rules, if you do get one that is ok with it. However, some schools will allow fish tanks. It may be that if your school's dorm rules specify a fish tank and do not otherwise specifically state no reptiles, you miiiiight have a case - they don't say what you can put IN the fish tank. But just imho, don't risk it if you're not sure. What happens if you're a long way from home and your first weekend, they find out and make you suddenly get rid of your gecko? Not a happy situation.

Go for off-campus housing if possible, but be warned some schools require freshmen to live on campus that first year. I really wish you the best. I got my master's from Georgia and loved Athens. Lots of good housing there.

I would never be able to trust anyone else to babysit my geckos. I've gone over with my husband how to take care of them if something happens to me like I have to go out of town or something, but I know he wouldn't "do it right", ya know? LOL! He takes great care of our daughter as far as basic needs (and of course, love) but I'll come home from work to her dressed in the most ridiculous clothing, messy hair, dirty face, etc. And since he doesn't care much for my geckos, I know their care would not be optimal at all. As it is, next time we go on vacation, I'm considering finding a pet sitter who specializes in reptiles. If I can't find one, I don't know what I'll do. I'll find something though.

I'd be willing to forego some of the "college exerience" by living off campus. Talk to the college though, find out if you can pay extra or something to keep a reptile. LOL! Just a thought. Probably won't work, but it's an avenue I'd explore.

Oh, and as tempting as it is, I would definitely not get another pet at this time!

I would get a small tank, a 20 long is a bit large for a standard first year dorm room.

For me, the college I'm going to says "no pets, excluding fish" so I'm just going to bring my gecko. XD I have a small 12"x18" plastic container that I'm going to use to hold her in when I'm there so it would be easy to ignore.
