What to keep my mealies in?

I just came back from my local pet store and bought a cup of mealies (they are in a plastic cup of oats). Do I keep them in this cup (I have them in the refrigerator), or should I put them in something else?

Once again, thanks for the help!

You must be getting tired of seeing me :main_laugh:

Are you planning on starting a colony with those mealies or are you just feeding them to your gecko?

If you're just using them as food, then you can just keep them in that plastic cup. You might want to drop in a piece of potato or carrot to give them some water. They will eat the oats, so don't be surprised if you see a decrease in the bedding, although being refrigerated they will eat alot less.

lol, no! i am not tired of you helping me! i am grateful for all of your (and others) help.

With these, I am just planning on feeding my gecko (I would like to start a colony sometime later when I learn more). Do I leave the top on the cup while it is fridge?

...and another thing, my humidity is still rather high. I have decreased the amount of water in the dish, and the gauge is still at 60%. What should I do? Perhaps I should only add a little bit of water each day or something?

I would leave the lid on... even though the mealies shouldn't be able to climb those plastic sides, I've still had some escapees.

Did your humidity actually go up when you lowered the amount of water in the dish? I believe ModestMouse had a problem with his humidity as well. It was usually around 50% but he kept a close eye on the gecko and it did just fine. I would go ahead and either get a smaller water bowl or a larger tank... whichever you prefer:main_laugh: . Until then, just keep your eye on the little guy. As long as he doesn't show signs of a repiratory infection then it should be alright.

what would be the sign of resiratory infection? he seems fine. he is still rather skittish, but just ate about 12 meal worms the moment they were put in the tank! i just need to find a dish to keep the mealies in that they want climb out of while in the tank.

i am planning on getting a 20 gallon long real soon since i want another gecko ( i just have to persuade my wife), but will get a smaller dish for the time being.

thanks again! :)

The main signs of a respiratory infection are labored breathing or a clicking sound with every breath. They also usually develop a mucus around the nose, you'll see little 'snot bubbles'.

As long as he's eating so well and deficating, sounds like you have one healthy little guy! It's nice to hear he has such a good appetite:main_laugh:

I wouldn't know half of what I do now if I hadn't asked other members of this site. Sounds like you're giving your gecko a great home... and it will only be a matter of time before you end up with a house full of geckos :main_laugh:
