I hope the pics load okay.
I have 5 eggs incubating between these two and I'm very curious what I might get. The hypo tangerine is the male and the tremper is the female.
I'm very new to this. :main_rolleyes:

A lecture about understanding the genetic potential of your animals before you decide to pair them up.

what he is saying is that before you decide to breed any animal, you should have a general understanding of the genetics of the species. you will never really know exactly what the babies will look like, but with some research you can get a general idea of the possibilities. there are a couple of really good leo morph calculators that you can find with a simple search online, or i believe there is a sticky on this forum that has a link to one as well. as far as problems that can occur, you never want to breed different albino strains. for example never breed a bell x tremper, rainwater x bell, etc...

It's my understanding that breeding different albinos together doesnt really cause problems for the animals. the reason that breeding different albinos together is frowned upon is that it creates animals that are normals heterozygous for both types of albinos. this makes the gene pool "muddy" because now the lines are crossed, making life for breeders more difficult because of uncertainty in which morph later generations are. no real harm for the animal but still something that should never be done.

does anyone else want to chime in and clear this up? i could be wrong.

Nope, that about sums it up George! Muddying the waters is frowned upon by breeders because it takes forever to test out the offspring. Also, I like the thread that was linked. I completely agree with it.

Breeding should be done with a specific goal in mind, not just for the hell of it, or just because you have a viable male and female and think that baby animals are cute.

It would take a long time before you can finally prove them out, and then you have a ton of offspring that contain both genes and you don't know what to do with them.
