What's going on here?

So I was thinking about adding another gecko...This gecko is available for adoption at a shelter about an hour away from me. They haven't yet responded to my email inquiry, so I'm thinking about heading over there to see the gecko in person. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is it likely to be something treatable? If it was just on one side of the head I'd think it was an abscess, but it appears to be on both sides of the head?

The website description says that the gecko has seen a vet, so hopefully it's being treated for...whatever's going on. I'd just like to get an idea of what I might be getting into before I make the trip all the way out there...

That looks like a horrible infection and stuck shed on that gecko.... I would be very wary

IF he comes home with me he will be in QT for a long time. :-/ I'm hoping that this picture was taken on intake, as this shelter is generally very very good about the care their animals recieve.

I wouldnt adopt that. You may have several expensive trips to the vet.
Wait until you find a healthy one that needs a home, to avoid possible heart break :)

It looks like my first email inquiry wasn't answered because I typo'ed the email address. D'oh. So I sent off another one (to the correct email address) and I'll keep this thread updated with any answers I get.

I got an answer! That was a photo taken on intake at the beginning of April. He was treated for a severe bilateral eye infection, and while the infection is now gone he did lose his vision. Apparently he does quite well as long as nothing is moved in his tank and he's hand-fed. Also, once the original shed was removed, he began shedding normally and hasn't needed assistance with his toes.
