Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't introduced myself here before but really i just stumbled upon this forum google searching, hoping I can get some insight on this egg that I'm incubating. It's due to hatch very soon as it is on day 42 and my average hatch days are about 44/45 days.

This egg was laid by my female emerine, which she is a first time breeder and has done very well this year. I'm still new to breeding myself but have suprised myself on how easy it is to breed them successfully. So far out of 6 clutches I have never had an egg this large. They are generally 4-5 grams but this one really has me curious what makes it special.

I use the G.E.O. from Sean over at yourgeckoguy.com and this one egg in particular literally touches from one end of the compartment to the other and even touches the lid which I've never had that happen in all the eggs I've gotten.

Honestly, I don't even think it was this large when she first laid it, but about halfway through the incubating cycle, it just exploded in size. Did some candling tonight too and everything looks good and healthy, even saw the little one squirming around. So I'm pretty excited to see what will come of it.

If anyone has experience with huge eggs like this, I'd be curious to hear what usually comes of it when it hatches. Is it just a larger hatchling, special morph, two babies, etc? Sorry for the long drawn out thread, just kind of excited lol. Here's a pic of the egg on a scale, which actually the pic says 9 grams but it even went up to 10 grams after taking the pic. All my other eggs are only 5 grams roughly.

Thanks so much everyone. :main_thumbsup: also, sorry if this is in the wrong section, i wasn't 100% certain so i just went with general.

I have no insight but I hope you stick around and post pictures after it hatches to let us see what it holds!

This is a good board with lots of knowledgeable people. They even do a secret santa around Xmas if your into that sort of thing.

I am pretty sure the matching is done by price, so a person who offers to send a 300 dollar gecko doesn't get a 20 dollar pet toy in return. I could be wrong, I did not set it up. You can end up with a new leo out of the deal. I was originally not going to spend more than 50 but since a breeder offered free shipping I ended up getting them a Leo and spending a bit more than 50.. though not 300. Got a couple of girls for myself in the same swoop, but received supplies which was fine. This year I will be saying "no leo," since I am going to be saving my space for a (hopefully) future breeding project.

From large eggs I have had large babies, twins (which died full term), and normal sized babies. Often times large eggs (if its a random one and not a female who continually has large eggs) I find that they either are not fertile or go bad during incubation. Good luck with your incubation and just enjoy what comes out.

thanks everyone for the insight on what it "could" be. I know for certain it's still a good egg as I saw movement last night when candling. Hoping it will hatch either today or tomorrow. I'm constantly checking it as they're isn't much room left for it crack out of the one end of egg. I was hoping to get it moved to a larger area once it starts breaking the egg but I don't want to move it out of the g.e.o. just yet. I'll post up a pic once it hatches just for anyone that may be curious and keep my fingers crossed that things don't go bad during hatch. I've yet to have any hatchlings not make it, i certainly wouldn't want that now, but i guess it is what it is and thats the way nature goes.

well, seems the little guy wasted no time hatching lol. it was literally just a few minutes since my last reply, i looked in there and it was just laying there completely out of the egg. i'm assuming the size of the egg just popped it right out, so i decided to take some time and get it into the tank, keep an eye on it for a few to make sure it was alright and get some pics. so here's what i got for anyone who was curious. doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary, maybe just a little larger than normal, but not really seeming like it's too happy about being out.

the two pics on the top are the parents, with the male raptor with ruby red eyes on right and female emerine on left.

by the way, these are slightly older pics of the parents but they're not too much different now. the only real difference is with my female emerine. when i took these pics, she was in her breeding time but now she's done egg laying and her tail has fattened up quite a bit putting on a little over 10 grams, making her just over 50 grams now. the male raptor has gained a little weight as well.

The babe does look larger than the usual size. Can you get a weight after it drops the yolk?

Congrats :)

thanks and yes, i'll get a weight once it drops the yolk. i'm not sure, but what's the average weight on hatchlings? i've never tried to weigh one before, only adults. just so i know what i'm comparing to.

i know my wife and i already have our next project lined up. we've already got a female tremper super snow in mind, hoping it doesn't get bought before next week lol. this year is the first time we ever tried breeding and had such a good time with it, we decided to take it to the next level.

i've seen so many of these babies popping out looking the same it just makes you ready for something even more exciting. not that there's anything wrong with these, but some of the morphs i've seen, which i know takes time, has made me pretty envious of some of these breeders and what they get. :p

cool, thanks for the info. this yolk seems awfully large compared to any hatchling i've ever had. any idea how many days it will take to drop it making it safe enough to handle it? i'm just kind of nervous with it being so big.

by the way, i'm sorry i suck when it comes to understanding the morphs, never could get my head around it all, but could you give me an idea of what a hypo het raptor looks like?

A hypo het raptor looks just like a hypo but it is heterozygous for eclipse and tremper. So breeding that to a raptor will get u raptors. If you're gecko is not het raptor, you can't get anything else aside from normal het raptors or hypo het raptors. That is because tremper albino and eclipse are both recessive genes. :) so if you're planning to get a super snow tremper, make sure its het raptor(eclipse) so you can get raptors from it. :)

just a quick update, this little one hatched the next day, but took me a few days to get a pic since it was a screamer and wasn't too fond of being photographed lol. just had to wait until it mellowed out a bit. i just love these little raptor babies, and kind of a bummer i only have about a 25% chance per egg to get one of these from my emerine.
