Just wondering as I live in northern MN and really want these geckos but im worried it might be to cold? How much warmth would a heat pack provide? Temps here i think are gonna be around 20 ish(we're having a rather warm winter) So im asking you as breeders who ship what are temps you feel safe/comfortable shipping in?

Im not a breeder... but I believe on average what I have seen is most do not like to ship below 40 degress but I may be wrong. Hopefully some of the pros will be a long so to voice their opinions. Though most breeders will allow payment and will hold them and ship them as soon as the weather permits. I know I personally cant wait for warmer weather to come I have my eyes on a few myself.

ive had a few ship geckos to me at 28-32F before but definatly would have love for it to be warmer. They were slow/sluggish but then i think i would be too! and this is with out a propper working heat pack. It failed to work properly and had just started warming up when they arrived. DANG WEATHER! I read a heat pack(THAT WORKS) can heat a box up 15-20 degress higher? true?

For me, the low temps everywhere the package will be need to be above freezing. The heat packs have warnings that they do not work below freezing. I prefer the low to be 36-40 though.

Im actually so glad your asking this question:main_yes:.

Im so confused about this b/c some breeders are saying its too cold to ship, while others are saying it's OK? (I've talked to 2 that said my temps were OK, and thats when the temps were going down in the teens at night, and a high of 34!) I personally didnt feel comfortable, and told them I'd rather be safe and wait.

I didn't know what the proper temperatures were that I would feel comfortable to wait for...so I went on multiple breeders sites, looking at their shipping policies, and it seems that most will only ship if the low at night doesnt get below the mid 30s.

I will not ship if the temps at any destination ("super hub" or final destination) fall below 35'F. However, when temps get that cold, I will always ship in a 12 x 9 x 6 and use 2 heat packs, one 40 hour heat pack and one 72 hour heat pack.

Direct quote from Superior Shipping Supplies: "IF THE TEMPERATURE IN THE SHIPPING BOX IS ALLOW TO FALL BELOW 32 DEGREES (FREEZING POINT), THE HEAT PACK MAY CEASE TO WORK BECAUSE WATER, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MAIN INGREDIENTS OF THE HEAT PACK, MAY BECOME FROZEN."

Thank you Imperial Geckos, that would explain why my heat pack didnt work right last time. So i should tell tehm to wait definatly. This ofcourse if the people are right with forecast@.@ they've been wrong alot lately. Yesteday said we were getting atleast 18 inchs of snow. Only got around a foot(wow! gett make snow geckos agian!) so maybe(Hopefully) there wrong. I did nto know that about the heat packs. Ill definatly have them hold them till next week.

tlbowling - agreed! Its so frustrating! so many gourgous geckos on here! and ya just cant help but look...only way NOT to get some is to stay off the site...and we all know thats just not a optionXD I dunno who the breeders were but hopefully they dont make a terrible mistake and ship some reptiles to there deaths!

Any others?

I go off of more than just the temps. Rain, snow, and all that contribute to wind chill factors which can drop the temps lower then acceptable. I don't ship if it is lower than 40deg including the other factors.

Very good points. I'm thinking its better to wait a extra week or two just to be safe. If the heat pack fails then there is a good chance they'd freeze to death...Still is good to see what the breeders of this forum recommened for shipping temps for noobs(like me!).

Being in Arizona, the only time I can buy/ship is when it is too cold for everybody else...sigh...it is a pain in the butt..

Lol thats ironic since mine will be coming from AZ. We decided itd be better to wait till the 11th ish to ship.

Oh, sad! I'm in the same condition you are in. I was going to get my gecko this week, too. We should have done this last week when it was 36...:bigcry:
