Hello everyone,

So I bought two leos in december "for my son." We have never owned a reptile before but reptiles have always been very interesting to me. I find myself watching and doing so much for these little guys. I love-'em! My son named them "Spike" and "Zuook." This is are first time ever owning a reptile. I did do some homework before i brought them home, and so far they have been everything i expected plus more with there beautiful colors. I got the basics down.

For now I got a little 5-gal aquar. since there still babies, a UTH on one side, a moist hide and dry hide on the other side, and there food and water in the middle. There temp stays around 80 to 86 on the hot side during the day and it drops down to around 74 to 79 at night.

I try to keep a couple of meal worms in there food bowl at all times. I let them crawl around in (repashy superfoods) Leopard gecko calcium plus. Also I try to feed them crickets at least 3 to 4 times a week as well.

I think im doing all the right things but please let me know if you find that im doing something wrong.

This is my problem.......

I've had Spike and Zuook for at least a month and a half now . When i first got them Spike was 3.5 grams and Zuook was about 4 grams. Spike health has been superb. He is very active, loves to eat. He has shed his skin three times since ive had him, and also his poop looks normal to me:main_thumbsup:.
But Zuook seems to be not as active. Spike has doubled Zuooks size!!
Zuooks appetite is very little. I have to put the worm in front of him so that he will eat. When i got him from the pet store he "looked" great. He was eating crickets and very active compared to the others. also Zuooks poop has been kinda weird looking. It seems kinda runny or more wet then Spikes poop, and the white part of the poop seems alittle bit miss proportion, there seems to be more then usual.

Well I hope i gave enough info about my leos. Here are some pictures of them "then and now". I would love to here some feed back.

sorry bout the pics.... There from my iphone...

First thing I would do is definitely get a second tank for Zuook. These animals do not always fare ideally when put together (I house ALL of mine separately). There could be a few thing at play...

1. Spike could be bullying Zuook, even without you noticing it at all it could be happening.

2. Zuook could have some sort of parasites going on. This could be found out by getting a fecal sample, and taking it to the vet for a float and smear.

Either scenario demands that they be separated immediately. Just in case, you don't want Spike getting infected, or Zuook being bullied into not eating. Another reason to separate them is that they aren't to the age that you can sex them yet. If they aren't both females, BIG problems will be coming soon.

sdpnoy,
Welcome GF... First I want to say that tangerine looks great... The patternless is a bit on the thin side but is not in bad shape...

From my experience, your temps seem to be a bit on the low side for starters... It would be a good idea to bump the hot side temps up into the 90 to 95 degree range...

Your ambient air temps should be in the 80's... This includes your cool side...

Secondly, at this age it might be wise to give them each their own cage... Leos are not social in the way some may think... They are, by nature, like most reptiles, solitary... Sometimes one leo can stress another one into reduced feeding...

Keeping them individually will also give you a better idea of each ones food intake and overall health...

At this point I would not be super worried about parasites being that they have been together for so long and the "healther" one is not showing any signs, although getting a fecal exam never hurts...

I feel your issue is related to heat and stress...

Thank you guys on the rapid reply!! your the greatest! i think im going to try seperating them. I just bought a reptile den for them last week and i have noticed Zuook the (paternless one) always in there. I also noticed that Zuook had a bite mark on his snout. So maybe.. zuook is getting bullied. I will also try to warm up the hotter side. Thanks again for the advise. Ill keep you guys updated..

Oh, if they are squabbling, DEFINITELY separate them! That might just be the easy answer, no vet needed :) You'll know. Zuook will start gaining weight quickly.

I agree, I was going to tell you to seperate them as well and see if Zuook will starting eating again. Kiya didn't like anyone else in her tank, even females. She was very picky that way.

For sure separate them!! I did the same thing with two leos and thought I would seperate them after a little while until I woke up one morning and one of them had dropped their tail! As soon as I saw that I rushed out and got everything I needed for a second tank. Definitely get them apart asap before something bad happens especially if you've already seen a bite mark....not good. Also like the others have said, one is most likely bullying the other one for food and fighting for the hides, this WILL stress the other one very much!

Some Leo's get along with each other and some don't. I have a male and a female blazzing blizzard that are housed together and get along fine. But I had three juvenile females housed together and one was staying really small and not gaining much weight. I separated them because I thought one might be being a bully and now the smallest one is the biggest. She eats like a pig now that she is on her own. If you plan on housing together, I guess it is just a little trial and error.
