has anyone ever heard of using wheat germ as a substrate for leos? i don't particularily like the look of tiles or paper towel. i have been using just kitchen towels, but i don't really like that either and my friend uses wheat bran (germ?) for his beardie.

Would not it rot? Ive used wheat germ as part of a gutload and its supposed to be refrigerated after opening and is a bit oily. I dont think leos are able to digest it anyhow.

You have a chance to get grain mites and mold with wheat germ as substrate. I don't think its a good choice. If you don't like tiles or paper towel, how about some sort of carpeting? I use a brownish colored table mat as substrate, it looks more "natural" (from a distance...) and works fine too. :)

I'd be a bit concerned that it would develop mold, especially in the warm conditions inside the enclosure.
