I have a male bell albino and a normal female. The male is 22 grams and the female is around 47 grams. the female and is around 9 to 10 months. the male is definitely a male but i cannot see any pores he is about 6 months. also the female's sister laid an egg about 2 months ago. when should they be ready to breed?:main_huh:

The female should be a minimum of 50g and the male shouldn't be much smaller. If he is too small she may rough him up if she doesn't want to breed. Egg production takes a big tole on the female, so don't rush. If you rush chances are you'll wish you hadn't.

No it shouldn't be based on weight, you should wait until a year old or if you are really in a rush just shy of a year old. This is my pet peeve bc by this weight logic I would be breeding a bunch of 5-6 month olds right now. I have seen they continue to develop even past a year old. You are running a risk of egg binding if the female is still growing and just stressing her in general. I think the minimum weights were orginally adopted for full grown geckos that were tiny but now is for people to feel okay breeding young animals. That's my opinion.

It should be on weight because a really light 1 year old couldn't breed because she couldn't take it.

I agree the weight requirement should be in place for full grown geckos, but I don't think that it should be a matter of weight when under a year old.

I prefer the weights to be 55-60 grams on females and 50 grams on males! Age isn't such a important thing as weight but does play a small factor. Maturity of leopard geckos generally happen about 10-12 months. So 10 months of age and 55 grams on females and 50 on males!
