When geckos attack!

Hello,
I just picked up a second female leopard this afternoon, and when I added her to the tank my first gecko attacked it. Is this normal until they get used to each other? I'm thinking about putting them in a neutral tank. If this works, how long should I keep them in the second tank?

Thanks,
Kris

I know this doesn't answer any of your questions, but I would suggest quarantining the new leopard gecko for at least 30 days. This will help identify any illnesses or parasites that you can take to the vet before introducing it to your current leo. If your new leo is sick, it can make your current leo sick as well.

How old are the leos and is there a size difference? If your current leo is larger, she may act more aggressive around "her" territory or food.

You can try to re-introduce your leos later after they calm down, but if they don't ever get along, they will need to be permanently separated. Having 2 females doesn't always guarantee that the leos will get along, but let us know how this progresses.

Not to sound rude but you cant just buy another leo and throw it in with the one you already have. First off you need to know the sexes on the leos, if their 2 males they defently cant be housed together, if theirs a pair, you shouldnt house them together unless you are trying to breed and in that case, they would have to be of age and the female should be 60 grams or more. Housing 2 females together can be done but doesent always work, even females will bully another female.

Thanks All.

The Tang was born in July and I don't know about the other, but they appear to be the same size. I've put them in another tank together and they seem to be getting along better. I will separate them for a month to make sure the new girl isn't sick and then when I do reintroduce them again I'm going clean and rearrange the tank to make it new to both of them.

Thanks, Again.

I posted a new thread in the "Introduce.." forum. Here's a photo from that thread:

I keep ALL my geckos in small cluster groups. Like one male and a couple of females. One thing I have learned is when bringing in a new gecko:
1st and formost is to quarintine them for 90 days first.
2nd Clean everything in the cage before introducing the new gecko.
3rd Watch them closely for the first little while once the new one is in.

I've been reading this thread with selfish-interest.

GeckoJunkie--thanks for your input. I'm interested in getting a 3rd leo next month. The 2 we have have been housed separately for almost 6 months, have both had their herp visits. I'll test introducing them over the next couple of weeks to see how it goes. If it doesn't work, looks like I'll stay a 2 gecko gal.
