My first two Leopard Gecko Eggs!
:D

I'm not sure how to tell if they are for sure fertile yet though. I think she just laid them about a few hours ago. They are soft shelled right now. Is that normal?
One egg is very white, the other isn't as white. The very white one has a small dent in the very top of it.

How can I put moisture into the container with the eggs safely? The vermiculite is drying out from being the the warm cage.

Please, I need some help quick. I'll be leaving for school in a few minutes, so I hope some generous people will respond by the time school is out (8 hours.)

I'll get some pictures one I get my mom's camera back.

Thanks!

Do you have an incubator? If not, you can leave them at the hot area of the tank, but put them in a CLOSED tupperware container. I left mine open last year, and some eggs dried out.

Moisten the vermiculite, but not too much, so the eggs won't get moldy.

Remember if your hot area in the cage is about 84-91 F, you'll get males (which you would have to house separately when they get older). So you probably want to incubate for females (about 80-82 F).

Maybe you can find the right temperature spot in your cage. If you want to buy an incubator, there's the cheap Hovabator (google it) for just over 30 bucks. It's basically a styrofoam box with some wires in it, and a metal grid to put your closed tupperware container with the vermiculite on. I have one, too, and I have 22 healthy hatchlings already ;-)

Good luck! Don't worry about the dents; most of the time, the eggs will round up in a few days!! Tomorrow or the day after, when you lift the eggs carefully and hold a flashlight under it, you should see some pink veins which means it is fertile. I'm not sure about your not-so-white egg; it might be infertile. But keep it, anyway, until it starts collapsing completely.

I just had two tiny babies hatch out of completely dented eggs which I almost discarded!! Never give up :main_yes:

Let us know of your eggies' progress...

Thanks everyone.

LZRDGIRL:
I already know mostly everything about incubating. I have a Hovabator that has been warming up for the past week. Thanks for the info.
My main problem though, was the vermiculite. I just bought it a few days ago, because I found out the Perlite I had had fertilizer in it.

I'm just afraid to touch the eggs to move them! I don't want to hurt them.

Don't turn or flip the eggs. They will die! I'm not sure why but you can move them.Eggs with dents are usually bad. But the other one is good. The eggs will get harder.

Thanks. I know not to flip them.

I tried candling the eggs today. I didn't see any bullseye, but then again I marked the eggs with a non toxic red marker. I guess I wasn't thinking about that.

The eggs still are soft shelled. I'm thinking they are infertile.

First congrats dude! Usually you can't tell if fertile or not right after them being laid. So when in doubt don't pull them out! Leave them in the incubator! Dents can be fix pending fertile egg of course, with a paper towel tarp. wet a piece of paper towel fold it to were the towel is about the same size of the egg. Cover the egg with the moist towel until the dent is gone. usually a couple of days. Also eggs that are freshly laid are hardier than most people think. Now that doesn't mean you can play Badminton with them, just use caution. :main_thumbsup: Also don't over think this, the eggs my be soft now but give them time! You'll do great Hayden!
