ok, lets see i lost the first 4 eggs that were laid
(yes they werent incubated for the first 4 days so i understand why) (maybe) but i had 10 more eggs laid since the middle of february, i undersand it takes awhile for eggs to hatch but shouldnt i be able to tell if the eggs are good by using a bright light or candle? i checked the eggs that were laid almost a month ago and they look clear inside no viens or anything. the temp is 85 and the humidty arround 85% by the guage in the incubator. i only have one male to the 4 females that i wanted to breed maybe hes sterile?
so how long do you think i should let the eggs go before i destroy them?
i plan on seperating the male out, they were all over a year old and over 50gr. the largest female was 59gr.

I was dealing with the same situation a month ago with eggs molding. I was tossing eggs in the garbage almost daily.

Then I read an article that said first year breeders, which mine are, rarely produce more than three or four fertile eggs in their first season.

Since that first bad month the eggs seem to be getting much healthier and not molding up so bad. I'm still getting the odd one that needs to be tossed but it's getting better.

I only toss my eggs when they show severe deflation AND mold AND stink real bad...even then I open the egg to make sure I'm not tossing good eggs!

Hang in there and tough it out!
It can only get better!!:main_thumbsup:

My first time breeder and first year breeding as well, she has laid 5 clutches so far with only 1 infertile egg. Gave me 4 Hatchlings and still five fertile eggs in incubator.

I am one of those people that hope till the very end. I keep the eggs till they deflate or stink horribly. Our first female to start laying had 7 duds before we got a beautiful little boy from her ( she has retired for the season. She laid enough for 1 year. Don't give up.

same here, except our first year breeder has only laid two clutches so far, but all four eggs have been fertile (two hatched already), so we got really lucky with her...another female of ours (first year breeder) only laid one clutch and both eggs were infertile =(

well i removed the male from the females and am going to wait to see if any of the eggs hatch. I will give them till june, by then I will know if theres no hope of them hatching. and i will assume the male is sterile or try again next year.

NEVER EVER EVER!!!

Well unless they're totally deflated and molded over beyond recognition... If it looks good, just let it cook...

I think if he was sterile, he wouldn't breed at all. But I could be wrong with that. Because it's their first year, you'll have more dude eggs. I'd keep the male and try the females again next year. Keep the eggs until you see bad mold or deflation.
