Lucid, You should have a cool side and a warm side. One side shouldnt be 85-95, and the other side has a heat mat? Just don't use the light, only use the heat mat. Or at least move the light over to the same side as the mat.

Ok well I talked to the people at a very reputable pet store in my area. and they said that they don't trust heat pads because if they short out they burn the animal in the cage. So they recommended putting a 75 watt moonlight bulb in instead of the 50watt moonlight that I had before. I hope his temps increase.

BWAHAHAH thats sounds like a load of bull!!! if a heat pad shorts out then its done! no more power it can't burn the gecko!

I had a huge heat pad under my iguana for 4+ years on constantly...NEVER a problem.

And from what I hear over and over again on here is that the gecko's need warmth below their bellies to digest their food....where as a daytime lizard like the iguana and such need the higher powered heat lamps.

is thsi reputable pet store by any chance P.E.T.C.O.!!! these guys made me buy tons of un-needed stuff and sold be crickets that were bigger than his head lol

I have a 29 and I got the one for up to 30. I didn't go higher than that, although I hear that is okay. Any bigger than that, there may not be a cool side IMO.

Let us know how his appetite gets.

Great news He just ate 6 crickets in one feeding and hes eating mealies the heat pad works! The only problem is I cant keep the temp of it regular I have to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in. I posted in the housing section on heating and I'm looking for a good thermostat for the heat mat. do you have any recommendations.

Any thermostat should work. I use a zoo-med thermostat paired with a digital thermometer with a probe. It keeps the tempature within 3 degrees all the time.

DItto but with my fan and stuff in my room the temp fluctuates between 87 and 94 but very slowly so its not all that bad its usually in between 89-92 ^__^
