I want to switch to a 20 gallon tank. I can't find a simple 20 gallon tank online anywhere. Everything that comes up is insanely priced.

Yeah, you could do craigslist or check with a petco in your area. I know the ones here usually do sales during the summer that are a dollar a gallon. 20 bucks for a 20 long isn't back for a brand new tank.

Shame you're in Ohio, I've got like 3 empty ones sitting here taking up space.

I'm in Jersey. I want a 20 long but the prices online are nuts. I may be forced to stay with my 10 gallon.

Trying to get one online is usually impossible unless it's for pickup. I imagine shipping a glass aquarium is generally frowned upon. =X You'll probably have to look locally for one if you want a decent price.

As mentioned 1) you'll pay through the nose on-line in either actual pricing or pricing + shipping, 2) check craigslist but if you do find one be prepared to clean it till the cows come home, 3) check petco or petsmart, I know petsmart sells them for around $32 for the aquarium version and around $80 for the reptile version (comes with sliding lid).

Both stores do carry 20 longs, it's a standard tank size, and both usually do some sort of $1/gallon sale up to 40 gallon tanks. However, neither store shows them on-line. You could even check with your local fish store or local herp store.

Shipping is what kills it if you buy it online. Whatever savings you thought you've made ordering would be gone when you add in shipping charges. You best look at local petco/petsmart when they have them on sale. I got mine at petsmart when they were $59.99, the terrarium version with mesh top. Not the cheapest thing around but it was the cheapest I could find locally.

Around here, 20 longs are all over at every pet store, CL, and rummage sales! Rummages are the best for herp supplies for super cheap. Otherwise Dr.Foster and Smith.com has flat rate shipping. But I dnt know how much the tank is.

I've never personally seen the fabled $1/gal. I go to petco all the time and they always look at me like I'm nuts when I even ask about such a deal. :main_huh:

I checked out 2 thrift shops this afternoon with no luck. Still looking online but you'd think that I was looking for something that doesn't exist. Nobody seems to sell plain old tanks anymore! The few I did see were priced too high. If anyone has an old 20 gallon long I'll buy it from you if it can be shipped without too many problems.

All due respect....

Is there are any rhyme or reason for your incessant obsessiveness with ordering a 20 long on-line and ignoring everyone directing to the cheaper, more economically sound advice of getting into the car and driving to petco, petsmart, or your local fish / herp specialty store and paying a huge fraction of the price than having it shipped? Shipping is going to run you, unless flat rate deal, about 2-3 times the actual price of the tank if you find it online.

Jerry, you might try posting an ad yourself on craigslist, stating what you're looking for, and a screen top too. Someone may have one stored in their shed they'd like to part with.
