Right now, I buy my mealies, but I'm thinking of breeding them myself and save me a bit of cash. So where do I start? Any tips?

just get a few bins (i use big tupperwares), put some oatmeal in the bottom and add your mealies. Give them a piece of carrot every day or so for moisture.

if you search through the threads, you should be able to find plenty of info about how to seperate out the pupae and beetles, just look around a little ;)

you could also use "rubber maid" bins and fill with oat meal. Also you would need to buy like 300-500 meal worms to start with.

My breeding project is a failure at the moment, so any advice i can give you is 3 bins for their different stages is a must.

hey, Ill be getting my N Milli in a couple of weeks and am still reading up on things . I have read that you should remove the head of the mealies before given them to geckos as mealies can bite. is this true?

You would think seeing live wriggly mealies would be more visually appetizing to a gecko.

Any advice? thanks

Thanks, I thought as much. A gecko would find a live meal worm much more appetizing. there seems to be a fair amount of nonsocial info out there. similar to the typical data sheet at the pet stores lol.

It seems mealies and supers can bite but its very rare and 9 out of ten times dose no harm witch is what i suspected. Thanks for the speedy reply to my question Lauren.

no problem. this site is a great distraction from the essay i am supposed to be writing (due tomorow). It's a little past 1 am, and i would much rather be on this site than doing homework...

If you are looking to purchase a large amount of mealies check out http://www.nyworms.com. I just order 1000 from them for 16 dollars with shipping. I couldn't really find anything cheaper and the customer service is great!!! Good luck with your project!!!
