So I have had my leopard geckos for 3 months now. Regardless of how many times I moved them or redesigned their tanks, they have yet to poop outside their poop trays. The trick is to put a tray in one of the back corners. Then put hides, food dish, and water dish at the other corners.
I use clear rectangular plastic soap trays that are less than 1" tall.
Here's a picture of my Exo Terra that I divided in half. You can see the poop trays in the back.
Im happy I saw this thread. I just joined the site today and this is one of the questions that had me looking for a gecko forum.
I just got a leo for my daughter for Christmas, Iv had him? or Her? well Its name is Izzy so we will go with that, for about a week. The first few days I did not have a damp box in the tank. Izzy just pooped anywhere. As soon as I made a damp box with paper towels it became the bathroom. Inside the box is the only place Izzy goes now.
Two sides to this coin, good- because I have a controlled spot for waste and easy clean up. Bad?- I have never seen Izzy in the damp box (In and out I assume). The poo in the box is the only way I know it has ever been in there. Will It still use the damp box for its intended purpose once it is needed or is it now a toilet only zone. Should I create a second damp box in a different location with a different substrate. I was also thinking that maybe it was the location (dead center of the tank) or the paper towel that Izzy has taken a liking to. Any thoughts or Ideas would be great? I dont mean to hijack the thread but it was the first thing I noticed and one of my main questions.
