Cool side hide box. Both of them. BUT: one poo's inside and one poo's on the top of the box... Weird way to play king of the mountain.... :main_laugh:

So I have had my leopard geckos for 3 months now. Regardless of how many times I moved them or redesigned their tanks, they have yet to poop outside their poop trays. The trick is to put a tray in one of the back corners. Then put hides, food dish, and water dish at the other corners.

I use clear rectangular plastic soap trays that are less than 1" tall.

Here's a picture of my Exo Terra that I divided in half. You can see the poop trays in the back.

my little fella was always warm side front corner too,out in the open, and when I added a hide in that area he moved his business into the hide but still in the same area. Bless!

My son's gecko poops in a food/water dish. It's not as gross as it sounds though. The dish is an extra one and is empty (other than her poop, that is lol). My husband placed it there after noticing she likes to poop in a particular spot (warm side in the corner of the tank). She goes in there almost every time, other than an occasional miss here and there. But it's always near it, if not in it. :p

Im happy I saw this thread. I just joined the site today and this is one of the questions that had me looking for a gecko forum.

I just got a leo for my daughter for Christmas, Iv had him? or Her? well Its name is Izzy so we will go with that, for about a week. The first few days I did not have a damp box in the tank. Izzy just pooped anywhere. As soon as I made a damp box with paper towels it became the bathroom. Inside the box is the only place Izzy goes now.

Two sides to this coin, good- because I have a controlled spot for waste and easy clean up. Bad?- I have never seen Izzy in the damp box (In and out I assume). The poo in the box is the only way I know it has ever been in there. Will It still use the damp box for its intended purpose once it is needed or is it now a toilet only zone. Should I create a second damp box in a different location with a different substrate. I was also thinking that maybe it was the location (dead center of the tank) or the paper towel that Izzy has taken a liking to. Any thoughts or Ideas would be great? I dont mean to hijack the thread but it was the first thing I noticed and one of my main questions.

Teak poops in the front right corner on the warm side. I put a piece of napkin down and he poops on the napkin so its an easy clean up!

I actually made a liter box for mine. They use it constantly. I just had a 6x3" plastic box I cut and modified so I could get about 1/4 inch of sand in it. Make sure it's easy for them to get on to but holds in the sand. I just clean that and wipe down my slate around it once in a while. Made it much cleaner

It very well could be the paper towel. Try putting Eco-Earth in his humid hide and moving it, while leaving some paper towel where he likes to poop. My gecko will ONLY poop on smooth surfaces. When I first got her I had her on paper towels and she would poop on top of her humid hide (which is smooth plastic). Then I put slate tiles in and she started pooping over in the back corner behind her cool hide. I put a paper towel down in that spot and she REFUSED to poop there. She started pooping somewhere else, so I tried to put the paper towel in her new spot and she went back to pooping in the old spot. She just likes the smooth surface I guess.. *shrug*

Right in front or the side of his humid hide. I have seen him crawl out of his warm hide mosey on over to the cool side poop, then mosey on back into the warm hide. I thought it was amusing
