Hey All-
I just wanted to let you know about liquid calcium and where to get it. Also, the geckos like the taste of it,so its easy to get them to lick it. Im going to start using it for my gravid females and babies who need more calcium.

the generic for Neo Calglucon is Calcionate Syrup made by Rugby Labs in Duluth Georgia- Product # 602-2770

this is the cheapest place I have seen it so far on the web.

I don't know what the dosing should be, but Im sure if you call your vet and tell him the weight of your gecko, he may be able to give you a rough esitmate of the CC dosage.

Maybe this info can be made a sticky or future reference.

I have purchased it here twice now. The price is $14.49. The current ad that they have up has it listed as expiring in Nov. 2006. I contacted them and their current stocks expiration is Jul 2007. Fantastic Product.

Thanks for all the links.

Ok since this is here, I feel a recommendation(from a vet) of dosage would be best. Anyone have any info?

I dont quite understand y you guys want liquid calcium for leos? We use that stuff at the vet for reptiles with MBD, not a as daily supplement. If your not using it for a supplement then i appologize i miss understood. And the dosage would be a exotics forumlary, which i can look into for your guys, but those dosages are for reptiles with a extreme calcium deficency. And one more question, neocal is for twice a day, Are you gonna give each lizard those does twice a day?? seems excessive in time and labor.

I had one case of slight MBD last year, and looks like another this year. That is out of 120-140 geckos in two years, so I dont think it was anything I did(or didnt do). Knock on wood.

I would just like to have it on hand now for my "special" non- calcium-absorbing, Leos. :)

Im pretty sure I never instructed anyone to use this as an everyday supplement. Maybe you should read the post again before you get all bent out of shape. I got a lot of PMs about where to get it after I posted that my Vet gave it out for help to stop MBD in a juv.leo. He also told me to use it for my gravid females who are no longer eating dusted feeders. he told me 1cc per day.....Gravid females need a lot fo calcium since they are eating for 2 right? They need the calcium to prevent deformities and create strong eggs right?

So whats the big deal?

jeeze...its not like I decided to play Doctor for the day and tell everyone what to do...I merely posted where to get it......And it not like its being smuggled from Tijauna...you don't need a pescription for some fruit flavored liquid calcium.....Its not poison

Wow.. Yeah. Don't get bent out of shape. He was representing a valid point. I use Calcium Glubionate to a small amount with our Rhacodactylus. They get about 2cc's spread over one large batch of fruit [about 2lbs-4lbs of it]. I worked at a Reptile Shopp out here and I was the person that dealt with the Borders/Medications for the whole store [over 1000 reptiles] for about 2 years. The dosage that I normally saw recommended for animals with MBD [either the beginnings or a really bad case] was 0.1 cc 2 x daily. I think 1 cc daily is overkill. You can cause many issues when using too much calcium.. like Hypocalcemia, renal failure and even. One of the reasons that I can find for use of that much/or more use of Calcium Glubionate is if your animal has dystocia. You can find more information out about that here. Please don't take offense to anything I have said. Just telling my experiences and how I do things over here. :)

I guess I will call my doctor, the one with the education in advanced herpetology and avian science.....and tell him hes wrong.....

(Throwing hands up)

They don't actually lick 1 cc fully......most of it ends up on the paper towel. But regardless, im following the directions of a doctor....

I got insturctions from my Vet, and since hes a DOCTOR, im going to follow his advice.

I posted a link, not medical advice.

I got some for my sick blazin blizz bubba, the vet didn't have any at his last visit and said I should get some online and bam this thread was here, also I asked him if it was ok to give to gravid females and he said that was fine but I forgot to ask dosage and I asked Marcia and she gave it to me, my girl won't eat her dusted feeders at all anymore and she just layed her first clutch yesterday so I wanted to make sure anymore she produces along with her own health turns out a plus.

I would never try to play doctor with my geckos lives at stake.

Let's calm down, please. No one accused anyone of anything, here. Remember that when we type we can't always convey our attitude in the way we want, and it may come off harsher than intended. Pat is a vet tech and was just making sure that no one used it as an every day supplement.

I think it is good to have on hand for the "just in case" case. My vet is 30 min away and he's the only herp vet in a office of about 10 vets, and he's there at all hours, doors open at 6am and close at 9pm. Since he's the only herp vet there, he's on call 24/7 poor guy. If I were ever to need to use it, I'd just give him a call and get the dosage after giving my leo's stats. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe we should have sound bites of people speaking their response. :)

I apologize if I came across as harsh. Not my goal in life.

Always consult your vet. Even multiples if that is possible.

Felicia that sounds like my vet, his office is a bit smaller only 3 doctors but he still is the only one that will see a reptile. I can NEVER get in touch with him only when I go into the place is when I get to speak to him, and even though he's really good at his job his nurses are not..LOL they never have any answers to my questions.
