I am not sure where to place the probe from my thermostat...

Do you pplace it on the heat tape? The bottom of a shoebox? inside a shoebox?

I am trying to figure this out, to get the best heating possible..

Also, I have heard people saying 90' or 92'...which one is it?

thanks!

I've never used heat tape, but just put the probe on the floor where it gets the hottest. Probes and therometers should always be on the floor (since that's where your leo's belly is). I have my 20gal tank set for 92 on the hot end, and 85 on the other. I have a UTH controlled by a thermostat set to 92, but the actual temp on the inside surface floor is closer to 90. A 25W halogen night heat lamp does the other end, and is controlled with a rheostat.
For a shoebox though, all you need is the tape :)
Hope that helps.
