Which morph?

Okay, So I'm finally going to start morphing my leopard gecko, but I have a few questions.

1 : Which gecko can I mix with my normal leo female to get the awesomest morph ( I know there is a list, but I don't understand a word that's going on there :main_huh:.... My mother tongue isn't English )
2 : What is the chances of getting a morphed gecko and not just a normal?

and just for interest... How long does it take normal gecko to start morphing... for example if I use the mom and dad and only their offspring to breed, in-line breeding is the word I think or will that lead to mutations ?

Unless it is dominant or co-dominant you will get hets. You can then pair the hets with eachother to get a chance at a visual morph. You will need to outcross them after the 2nd or 3rd generation though or you run the risk of deformities.

You could pair your normal with a Mack Snow and get 50% normals and 50% Mack Snows (example of pairing with a co-dominant)

You could pair your normal with an albino and get normal het albino and then pair the hets together to get 25% chance of getting an albino. (example of pairing a normal with a recessive or linebred morph)

Hope that helps!

Your best chance of getting anything different will be with a mack snow like sunshinegeckos said. Otherwise it will take a minimum of two generations with a good chance of little or nothing happening. This is assuming your gecko isn't het for anything of course.

Thanks, I was thinking of getting a snow, it's the cheapest I can get. What exactly does ''het / hets '' mean?

It means heterozygous, try researching morphs and basic genetics to understand. umm depends on the snow, you can get a ordinary mack snow for about 30 -40 dollars but Combo morphs cost more, if you are going to try to go cheap then im not sure if your interested in breeding.incubtion, heating, food, housing etc cam get costly. Plus you need to make sure you have a market or or homes becauses snows are pretty common so you might end up with alot of geckos that you will have to house and feed.

Oh sorry I misread it, I thought it said "if that's the cheapest you could get". Anyways hets aren't relevant to snows, if you cross a normal to a mack snow then you get 50% mack snow/ 50% normals(chances apply per egg), or if you go super snow then you get 100% mack snow, and you can't get het snow.

Honestly, if your looking to get a cheap morph to breed some awsome morphs out of your normal i can only suggest research, do a TON of it, decide wich line you wish to pursue, not just wich one is cheapest. Ill tell ya, raising babby leos is not cheap so spare no exspense. Learn the terms of breeding and what they mean. More then likely you will have to work with a few generations (im thinking somwhere between 4-6 minimum) To recive something to call AMAZING as opposed to a morph that anyone can make, if you want amazing it must be unique and that takes time and effort. Im not trying to discurage you at all, i love the idea of breeding a macky to a normal, love mackys XP. I just wanted you to be prepared for e, :). Best of luck to ya!

P.s. recent poll shows, no profit in breeding most of the time. Yikes.

I'm not looking for cheap morphs, I just want to start small, see if I can really do it, and I'm still in school so don't have the money to go really big like in 100 cages big ( Which I will one day:) ) The line of morph I want to follow is ''new morph'' but for now I will just see how things work out then I'll start morphing normal geckos through the generations. I'm not in the morphing to make money, it will be like a hobby. I also want to create my own cages so I won't have to buy expensive cages, and I also started breeding ( if you can call it breeding, because it's actually very easy ) with silkworms, and maybe I'll start breeding crickets as well. And I think I will be able to sell my morphed gecko's one day, because in all the petshops I've ever visited in my own country I've only seen one morphed gecko ( snow gecko ) the other gecko's are all normal. Is there any sites where I can learn more about the terms and stuff?
Thanks for all the advice

Hmm what "new morph"? Making a new morph isn't simple lol and it doesn't happen when you want to, its a random mutation, but if that's what your trying to do then get a wild blooded gecko that's how new morphs are created but I don't recommend crossing with your normal. Actually breeding isn't as simple with geckos as it is with worms. You might want to research this. Geckos lay eggs so it takes a tole on the females, they lose weight and need alot of calcium, its not just put a male and a female together and watch the babies grow. How long have you had leopard geckos? Also what do you mean terms? You mean morph names? Then google leopard gecko wiki

I know it's not a simple process, what I meant with the worms is that I won't really struggle with food supply.... This month I've had her for one year and 3 months... I won't do anything that I haven't researched well enough.

Actually, a Mack Snow is the heterozygous version of a Snow, since it has one copy of the gene. The Super Snow is the homozygous version, because it has two copies of the gene. The difference between het Snows and het Albinos is that Snows are dominant and Albinos are recessive, so the het appears in the phenotype of Snows.

Yeah I understand wht you are saying. What I was aiming to say is That if it doesn't show the phenotype then it can't be het snow like other recessive traits.
