I've been researching for weeks now and i know i want either a Rosy Boa or A Kenyan Sand but i cant decide which. So if you can give me any hints/tips/suggestions they would be appreciated, thanks
I'd say get a rosy, they readily eat, get a bit bigger, and don't hide anywhere near as much as sand boas. They are also very docile and come in many colors and locals if you know where to look.
Hi Tylor,
I have owned both types of boa and really love Kenyan Sand Boas. True, they do hide a lot, but snakes are typically nocturnal and will make every effort to keep themselves concealed during the day anyways. What I like about sand boas is that they take up very little space and have a very unique, "cute" look that sets them apart from other snakes. They are also a joy to hold and have a different feel about them.
Of course, Rosy Boas are very similar...just a bit bigger and with more color options. If you are going away to college in the near future, I would stick to owning a male sand boa because they are easy to hide. Trust me, I kept telling myself that I would be able to keep all of my critters when I went to college, but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I was only able to bring my leopard geckos...everything else had to go.
Hope this helped and good luck!
thanks....thats one of the things I've been thinking about but the college im goin to is near my hometown in PA so i just have to worry about getting one that is slower moving and not to likely to bite.....because while im training my grandfather and little cousin will have to take care of it. But my grandfather loves snakes im just worried about my little cousin.....the snake i get will be his b-day present
Sand Boas do hide a lot, and are not very cool except at feeding time, but their colors and patterns are pretty awesome. Rosys are great little docile snakes and although they are technically nocturnal, I see mine a lot. Their colors are not as cool but I think they are better choice for your cousin if he is little. Why? With Sand Boas you have to dig around for them when you want to handle them and are a little more skittish. My rosys have been handled by my 3 and 5 year old kids with no problems.
