I noticed that my leopard gecko has a white film on one of his eyes. He is around 4 years old. He still eats but has trouble seeing and hunting for his food. He is on paper towels and has a humid hide. He got a white film on his eye after he finished shedding. He also keeps this eye closed often. Does anyone know what caused this and how to treat it? I am getting worried :(.

UPDATE: The white film disappeared, and now he no longer has a white spot! He is still closing his eye, but it looks like everything will be alright. :)

There may be a piece of shed stuck or he may have an infection. You can gently clean the eye with warm water and a q-tip. The gecko may need to go to the vet for antibiotic treatment.

Thanks for the reply. I tried gently cleaning the eye. His whole eye is no longer white. He just has a white spot on his eye and when I cleaned it, it moved places. I believe that it is shed stuck in his eye. It still didn't come out after I tried cleaning his eye.

There is a product by Zoomed called repti turtle eye drops. Dont let the name mislead you. It can be used on all reptiles. You need to flush his eye with 100% saline/water solution Then you can put a drop or two in the eye with the repti Turtle eye drops. I have had two Chinese water dragons before and it was helpful with them because both got eye clogged days after I got them. They both passed because they are hard to take care of. I have learned that if i ever get another one im not putting it on coco fiber or loose substrate. Repti carpet is the best :) anyways do that with the saline and turtle eye drops and your gecko should be GOLDEN!
