Not many people have voted but I am in the investment stage of breeding(buying several racks and heating and accessories, incubator etc) and then I have to buy the quality geckos that will actually sell, and then make a name for myself. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely excited and ready for everything but it just makes me wonder if I will ever break even. But I definitely would not be getting into this if I didn't have a strong love for the hobby! The "new gecko feeling" never seems to get old
It's primarily a hobby for me, that's the main reason I haven't felt the pain with how much I've spent already. If this was strictly a business venture, it's a slow business in the making with a lot of time investment and small profit margins, with years before I"ll really break even. The fact that my real fulltime day job is supporting my hobby reminds me how important it is to keep my fulltime job.
But because I do view this as a hobby, I'm enjoying every minute of it. If some day I break even or make a small profit, that'd be awesome. But I already know whatever extra money I make, I'll likely be using that to upgrade equipments, racks, and get more geckos heh.
I probably lose a few hundred a year, not counting electricity costs and gas mileage to shows. It's a fasacinating hobby for me, especially the "living art" aspect.
