Amara hissed and bit at me the second time I tried handling her. She has never done it since ( thankfully, sounded like a really ticked off cat). Continue trying to make friends and get them used to you cleaning thier cage, changeing water, feeding etc. I was told to do it when they first wake up in the evening that way they see you and get your scent and will relate your hand with good things.

If that doesn't work, then bite the bullet and pick him up and handle him for a few mins. every evening ( I wait until Amara has already ate a bit) until he's calm enough to start exploring on you. Amara didn't go with the standard rules of getting used to my hand in the cage. Until I got her out and put her on my shoulder did she relize my face and hands were all one person. Now she is constantly out of her hide reguardless or noise, lights, and or people moving around once she wakes up as long as she sees me nearby so she knows its safe to come out.

I know it can be frustrating and dissapointing sometimes, but once they figure out your "safe" and wont hurt them, its all downhill from there I promise.

Hi
I am new to the forum and am enjoying reading the posts and learning more about leo's.
I didn't plan for this to be my first post here, but just had to reply to this thread.
My 2 geckos were donated to me as I am a teacher.
My son took one and the other, Lizzie, is in my classroom.
That was my first gecko lesson, to separate companions if one is bullying the other. I had been told that they loved each other and had always lived together in peace. HA!
So, two habitats instead of one.

The second thing I learned was that geckos can indeed scream.
I had no idea.
After separating the two, I then got out my mister of warm water.
I thought Lizzie would like it.
Instead she arched her back like a cat and let out a blood curdling shriek.
My reaction?
I jumped back, dropped the mister, and screamed as loudly as I could too.
Then, both of us with hearts racing, eye balled one another in shock.
We had only just begun...

This is a great forum.
I know that I will like it here.
There is always more to learn about these fascinating critters!
