I have been following these posts and just waiting how far this would get. It's high in fat. It is not nutritionally balanced and has no dosage control.
If it was so great it would be on the market.

Ken Harkewicz, VMD is NOT the president of
ARAV (Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarian)

The president of ARAV is Paul M. Gibbons which can easily be verified.

Ken Harkewicz, VMD The same vet that never seen a case of hypervitaminosis D:stunned: very unreliable in my eyes

Maybe because he didn't see as many reptiles due to the fact he worked at:

Berkeley DOG and CAT House

Assuming you're talking about GGG's:
I do not believe the slurry is supposed to be a staple diet. It is to stimulate their appetite and get them eating again.

I knew a girl in high school who was very little. She did not have an eating disorder but she very petite. Her doctor put her on what I called "McDonald's Diet". She was recommended by her doctor to eat more meals higher in fat.

You don't feed this slurry to your healthy good sized lizard you feed it to your dying wasting away gecko.

I was a vet tech in New York. You don't start an anorexic reptile on a high fat diet.

The point isn't an anorexic reptile, the point is a reptile who has been sick for whatever reason and needs to get their appetite going again. Most geckos don't have to be on it for longer than a week - when I had to do it, I only had to feed them that for three days before they were munching on bugs again.

I was a vet tech in Alabama.

Look, I can make "job" comments to try to give myself credentials on the internet too!

what im about to say is no way in aimed to this topic about the slurry, just to comment about what you said .... the worst possible way to make someone gain weight is to feed them a diet of high fat. its a huge misconception that if you want to gain weight or get 'fatter' you consume higher fat content foods, that is the worst thing you can do and is a extremely unhealthy shock to your body,. im suprised the doctor even recommended that, very stupid in my opinion.

I would assume it goes the same both ways thats why I would agree in that point, but obviously she put alot of research in this slurry and although I dont have much experience yet, I can still say if it helped in the past while still helping and gives some leo's atleast a second chance for a little more, its better than nothing I would say. :main_thumbsup:.

Until there's a new recipe that's been proven to successfully provide geckos with adequate nutrition while rehabilitating under a qualified reptile vet's care, I will continue to use it. My own vet in Florida believes it is of value, as he has seen the results in a gecko I took in that was on death's doorstep and under his treatment. Here's her story: http://www.geckotime.com/sick-leopard-gecko-recovery/

The slurry is not intended to help them gain weight, nor is it a cure for anything. It's simply necessary nutrition for short term until the animal is strong enough to be eating on it's own.

If you know a better way that is vet approved- do tell.

What most of the vet tell people to feed is the oxbow carnivore food, mazuri and the earthworms thing they make themselves because this person mentioned they used it in NY in the slurry post. The vet tells you exact amount and they have all worked great. I doubt there is anything special out there. All the vets I have been to use these products and they get the geckos eating within a week so I don't understand why people act like there nothing else available. That is 3 things recommended by the vets and it's given in proper dosing.:main_huh:

That was probably a rather simplified version of what the doctor actually said. I do not know the full detail. I was told she was ordered to eat more meals and add a few meals of McDonalds. Did not mean to imply that she was ordered to only eat really fatty foods.

Sounds like that doctor was as bad as these vets some people go to if the vet can even tell them about a good product, that is balanced, dosed carefully and commonly used. They suck, lol

First of all, I am wondering why this new thread was started when theere is already an existing thread on the topic? http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=82157

Prove your argument. Simple. It's food. It doesn't have a dose because it isn't medicine. It's not on the market because I feel a life saving formula should be available to everyone without buying it or me making a profit on the misfortune of a sick gecko.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Apparently you did not bother to go to the ARAV website? Here is the link to the ARAV page that lists the officers: http://www.arav.org/ECOMARAV//timssnet/society/arav_board.cfm

He says he has never seen a case of hypervitaminosis D in a leopard gecko, not that he has never seen a case of hypervitaminosis D in a a reptile.

LOL, he doesn't work at Berkeley Dog and CAT HOUSE, he works at Special Veterinary Services that is in the same building as Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital. Their phone number is 510-848-5041, Call them and ask.

Nothing i said was incorrect. I went by what is posted.

So he just become the president and how long ago have you been telling everyone here he was the president? Look at all your old post, he was not the president during those dates, lol

The products commonly used as listed by someone are not medications(no drugs) but are given in doses per body weight safely and the products are completely balanced.

So maybe it's time to start being honest.

OK, here is a different result from a simple google search:

He has been President Elect and acting President since 2010-2011, and President since June 2011.

Is a bowl of mealworms sitting in a leopard gecko's enclosure given in doses according to body weight? Again, the slurry is FOOD. Leopard geckos will stop eating it when they are full. It doesn't take rocket science to figure that out.

Well were you being honest when you stated over and over he was the president during the times he was not?

Your slurry is overkill. You have no idea how much protein, vitamins or anything is in it. There is such a thing as daily calorie intake in a anorexic reptile.

Could you please provide links to the threads where I stated he was ARAV President when he was not? If I was mistaken and should have stated "President Elect" or "Acting President", I will surely make a public correction. In the meantime, please do NOT make accusations regarding my honesty without providing specific examples.

This will be the LAST time I will request documented and legitimate data supporting your opinion. While you are looking for that, can you provide us with proof you were a vet tech, where and for whom, when and how long, what species your vet(s) treated?

The slurry is something that should be used as a last resort if your geckos are starving. It's not a medication, it's not a commercially produced product you can buy at PetCo. It's a homemade mixture. If people misuse it by giving it to geckos that are not eating for natural reasons (ovulating/breeding, cooling of temperatures etc.) that is their choice and they are not using it for what it is meant to be used for.

Stop posting accusatory statements as fact about people without proof.
