What would any of you be willing to pay at a business (or pay for your kids) to play a Nintendo Wii for 1/2 hour or hour? Thanks in advance for any input :)

That's hard to say really, considering you can play it for free at most videogame stores and such. A lot depends on the type of business, now if let's say i'm at a place where i need my kid to be preoccupied for 1/2 an hour while i do something then i guess i would throw down a couple bucks so tha they can have some fun and I get some peace.

The business is a sports bar style with a family twist, meaning kids allowed until 9pm. What we are thinking is the adults could be watching the games, while the kids are in a separate room playing the Wii and other arcade games. We've looked around, and no one offers free Wii, other than gaming places, and they are limited to 5 minute increments. In fact, in the town we are opening in, no one offers the Wii period.

I think that is a great idea for your business, Heather. If I had kids... or well, if I was a kid again, I'd pay about $10-$15 for 45 minutes of game play.

on the other hand... if you plan on having multiple consoles ... you could run things a little cheaper, say $5-$7/30 minutes...

question, what are the prices of your other arcade games in relation to what you want to charge for the Wii game play? do you plan on having single player games, or multiplayer games (such as mario party) available? - that could make a difference in what you charge...

just my thoughts. :) hope that helps!

Well, there really isn't anyone around us that charges for Wii play. North of us about an hour and a half I know of a bunch of places that do it for free, but these places are HUGE, and have like 50 systems going lol, there is no way we can do that!

We already have the system, and with us being there all the time it only makes sense to set it up there with our 60" TV. We have talked about it a few times, and have already set up a waiver that parents of kids under 18 would have to sign. We have up to 4 controllers, and 15 games (all the good ones...Marios, Zelda, all the Need for Speeds, sports, etc).

I just don't want to charge too much, you know? I'm still trying to find a place around us that has it for rent on an hourly basis, but no luck :)

Lol, oh trust me, we know. It will be the same type of deal as most restaurants...parents can drink, kids are allowed in (but of COURSE cannot drink), then they close down everything but the bar area at a certain time.

Leo, you're close to us, only about a half hour away. You'll have to come down and say hello :)

I would think that $10 per half hour would be reasonable. If you make it too cheap parents will pay for a bigger block of time and you may end up with a long wait list.

You're going to have to chain down the wii-motes!

Here's an idea - Why not have parents pay a lump fee for time in the game room (Say 10 per child, per half hour?).

Well this is what we were thinking...of course it isn't final, but you know, just thoughts:

$3 for a half hour
$5 for an hour
$1 for every extra remote being used

Therefore, the most you would pay for a half hour is $6, and for an hour is $8.

We were also going to put a time limit on it if there are others waiting to play. Meaning someone can't pay for 5 hours when there are 3 other people waiting to play. What that time limit will be, we'll have to decide lol.

Your pricing seems very reasonable. :main_thumbsup: I think asking $10-$15 is just more than parents are going to want to pay. Granted, kids can nag until they get what they want, but my kids couldn't possibly nag me THAT much!

On a seperate note, my kids won't see the inside of a bar until they're 18 years old, and by that time I most likely won't be with them. ;)

How will you monitor the games and peripherals? I would hate to hear of them growing legs, know what I mean? Maybe you could ask for a game request on your sign up sheet, so that they don't drive you crazy with game switches. As far as the hourly rate, $5.00 sounds very reasonable.

Oh Maurice, this is not the style of "bar" you are probably thinking of :) It will be very family friendly...no smoking, very clean and classy. I have pictures somewhere that I'll have to post. There are so many nasty bars around, we figured why not have one that EVERYONE can enjoy? Plus, how many fathers LOVE to watch sports with their sons (or even mothers and daughters for that matter) but can only do so at home? We'll be more of a deli style of food as well...not "bar food" with grease and a little substance lol.

As far as kids breaking it, they will not have access to anything but the controllers, and there will be a waiver stating that we are not liable for any injuries or things that get broken during game play. The console itself with be in a cabinet with a sliding glass locked front, therefore we will have to be the one changing games, and can monitor everything. The controllers will remain behind the bar until "checked out", so we'll obviously get them back. The sensor bar will be velcroed down to the top of the TV - of course that isn't fool proof, but it will help! Plus, the room with the Wii has a camera linked to a TV right up by the register.

We are not classified as a sports bar, but it's easier to explain that way. Bar is no where in our name :) Yes, there will be spirits and a couple big screen TVs, but it will not be your average "bar atmosphere". Most family restaurants have big screen TVs and sell alcohol. Why not go to a place you can take your whole family, have a nice meal, and watch a game in an atmosphere that isn't filled with smoke and loud men screaming lol. We are primarily a deli, with the entertainment portion being sports themed.

Umm if your looking for summer help call me, lol..

It sounds like a good idea. I can't imagine it in NYC and lasting for very long. Hopefully it works out.

Well there are other aspects of the business that will keep us on our feet. That and Danny and I know everyone in the area, thanks to having owned 2 other businesses :) It's a small town, less than 15,000 population...so it's built on small businesses, I'm sure we will do just fine. Testing markets yielded nothing but positive interest.
