Okay, so I'm going to get roaches. If you look at my other post, extra feeders, you would have seen that I was in need of roaches at a good price... well thanks to brothaT I'm getting 1000 lateralis babies (CUTE) for 17$ and 200 mixed dubias with a few pairs. I'm planning on putting them both together in a 30- 50 gallon plastic container only because I don't have enough space. I will be heating them with a 3" Flexwatt Heat Tape. Here's my cart
Qty Item # Product Price
1 connection Heat Tape Connection - $0.00 $0.00
1 htws Wire/Clip/Insulator set - $5.00 $5.00
1 3ht10 3" Flexwatt Heat Tape - 10 Watt/Ft - $2.10 $2.10
Will this work?

who is brothaT and will he sell me some lateralis...? LOL... i have a friend that feeds dubias, but i also need more of them... the price for those red runners is cheap... wow...

IMO, i wouldn't put the roaches in the same container... i have a colony of madagascars and a wack colony of dubias in 18G sterlite containers... i heat the madagascars by the heat the monitor tank gives off... so they are on top of the tank... the dubias, i think i'm having trouble heating them, but i'm using a personal heater from the drug store... i got it at CVS for like 15 bucks or so... you could probably get one at walmart... anyways... the room i have them in the temperature drops a lot... but anyways...

you could put them in smaller containers with plenty of egg crates, but stack them on top of each other... just put some heat tape on one side of the container... so you could stack them up... or next to eachother and put them both over the heat tape...

just get a bunch of egg crate and you'll be fine... they don't need that much room... but they need a lot of area space and that's what the egg crate does for you...

good luck...

Why keep them together? That's going to make sorting them a nightmare. Also, lateralis lays egg cases, and I'm not sure the dubia wouldn't eat them...

I keep 20000 or so lateralis in 18 gallon bins, they don't need a bigger bin than that as long as theres enough egg crate. 200 dubia would do fine in something smaller, like a 50 quart, with room for the colony to grow. Just get two smaller bins and plenty of crate, and heat each bin individually, 2 one foot sections of flexwatt and 2 connector sets aren't very expensive. I'd also use a dimmer or rheostat, 3in will get too hot really unregulated.

Where do you get a cheap dimmer or rheostat? Alright, can I just divide the big plastic container by placing a screen inbetween and heat each side separately?

no... that will just give them something to climb and possibly escape... if anything, you could divide with a piece of acrylic or glass... but still... i wouldn't recommend it...

just get two smaller containers...

you can get a cheap dimmer like at home depot or i think walmart... the ones for light switches and stuff... that's what i use... but seriously... don't put them together... it's going to be a huge mess... trust me...

i've also seen some people with turkistan roaches in 5 gallon buckets... on youtube somewhere...
