One of my dogs, Chase, is getting heartworms medications. The former owner said that he treated him for it, but obviously not. This morning, he started coughing, weezing, and throwing up. The vet said to bring him back in if he started to do any of these things. So now he's on his way to the vets, and I'm about to go to school. I hope he's allright, I'll be worrying all day now:(. Has anyone had to go through the heartworm treatment with their dogs before? Here's some pics of him:

Good luck with the treatment! Make sure you keep him VERY, VERY calm after the injection. This is SO important.

He's going to be pretty painful and swollen in his hind area...the needle has to go very deep in a specific area. Ask the vet if they can give you a couple anti-inflammitory pills to hold him over.

Like I said, from my experiance, keeping him as calm as possible is your best bet. Let us know how he did over the next 24 hours!

He already got the shot about a week ago, that was when he started to get heartworm treatment. He was sooo drugged when he came home lol, and don't worry, he's generally a very calm guy lol. It turned out that him throwing up, weezing, and coughing was from bronchitis. So, now he has heartworms and bronchitis lol, I'm just relieved it wasn't anything more serious.

Oh well that's good that all those symptoms weren't heart-related...not that it's good he has Bronchitis, since his immune system is compromised anyway, but it's better than what it could be. Most of them usually do sleep a lot when they get home, but every now and then there'll be some super hyperactive bordercollie or golden retriever that ends up needing to stay in the hospital for treatment.

I hope Chase's body is strong enough to tolerate this medication, and he seems to have done well after a week. Hopefully this is the last hurdle you guys have to jump before getting him on a good heartworm medication monthly. You guys are in my thoughts.

Thanks Maia for your kind words, thank goodness he's not another hyper! One is enough lol. I'm pretty sure that he'll do fine, he's always been one to tough it out =)
