:) i'm soo happy. my leo is finally eating morioworms.

I've had her quite a while now and she is a fussy eater :D the pet shop always fed her on crickets and when I got her home all she would eat was crickets and waxworms. I didn't mind feeding her crickets.. but they die after a couple of days, they are noisy and they smell. It was just annoying having to buy crickets every other day... plus I don't like them. they are creepy lol

sooo.. i wanted to try and get my leo to start eating morioworms soo that i could use them as a stable diet as they are easy to gutload and keep. well, before today she'd only ever eaten two because i managed to mix them in with some waxworms. But tonight, she ate three :) sooo hopefully she will begin eating them all the time now.

btw, i have a question about morioworms / superworms... how many can they eat every other day? ( she's healthy sized, although i don't know her weight.. and she's over a year old )

oh cool :) how old is your leo?

I usually fed Monday, Wednesday, Friday and maybe Sunday.. but my feeding routine got mumbled up over Christmas because i couldn't get hold of food and stuff.

I get nervous when i feed her supers because i can see the lump in her throat as she swallows them. they are the appropriate size for her soo is it normal to watch her swallowing the worm? :D

The swallowing thing sounds about right since they usually end up folding in half as they go down insted of going down length wise. My leo is 10 mos old, born March 2010. I also do mon wed fri, and once he got to 9 mos we cut out his 2 mealworm snack on sundays when he started slowing down how many supers he would eat (went from absolutely eating 3 a feeding and still lookin hungry to meh maybe 1 or 2 will make me full) :)

haha :) aww that's cute. i've seen some photos of your leo :) he's beautiful lol

well.. im not worried now that i've been reassured. soo should i just give her three then? or as many as she will eat? she's already getting fat ^ ^

do you know anything about the feeding habits of a 2 month old leo? in summer i'm purchasing a new leo, hopefully a male blazing blizzard, from Jordan from this forum. It will be about 2 months old when i get it. do you know when i change from mealworms to supers?

I never raised a leo from that young, but I'm sure Jordan will be full of useful info for ya. He's a pretty smart kid. My breeder told me that my leo had been eating supers from abut age 5-6 mos old if that helps. Supers also do come in a range of sizes just like mealies so you should be able to adjust size as your juvie grows to suit his needs. As far as feeding your current leo, I never felt comfortable giving Eros more than 4... I was afraid he'd regurg and didn't want that to happen so again on the advice of my breeder I never gave him more than 4 large supers at a time. And thank you for the compliment on Eros... I also think he's a pretty handsome fella :)

You're welcome :) Happy to help. Btw I like your new avatar. You should put the snail up there :) I was also nervous about getting such a young leo that's why I went with a sub adult insted. A lot less likely to kill it :)

Most of mine start getting switched to supers at around 2mos, small size similar to mealworms. We breed both worms so there's always a variety of appropriate sizes available. I've only seen one place to buy baby supers in the US, which I did while my colony was getting established.

is it easy to set up a colony of supers? I've seen how to make mealworm colonies. how many supers can a 2 month old eat every day? and how many do you recommend i feed my adult leo every other day?

Mealworms are much simpler to breed than supers for many reasons such as time, space, materials. For one leo, IMO, it's not worth it to breed supers but it is for mealies. However, you can still purchase a quantity of supers and store then at room temp to feed off as needed.

thats great :) i've been spending like £2.50 every 2 weeks because the crickets kept on dying. But if she carries on getting superworms then I'll only need to buy 1 pack every month :D
