I use a liquid calcium supplement for my canaries (especially during the breeding season) called Calciboost. http://www.allbirdproducts.com/newproductpages/calciboost.html It is formulated with usuable calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3. It is added to their drinking water and is made to be rapidly absorbed and metabolized without the presence natural sunlight. Calciboost is especially effective on depleted, post egglaying hens and can even come to the rescue in the event of eggbinding. Although not marketed for reptiles, would this be a safe supplement to put in my leos' water from time to time to up their calcium intake? A canary is roughly one third to one half the weight of a leo. Bob

I would not personally use it. You are looking at using less than 0.1ml for most of you leos based on their dosage. Any liquid supplement is easier for the body to work with, but also easier to overdose and harder to regulate intake (if simply put in their water). Most of the calcium powders formulated for reptiles contain a majority of the vitamins/minerals within the "normal" safe ranges.

We only use liquid supplements on reptiles if the animal is not capable of obtaining them through powders and dietary. I can ask the doctor tomorrow and see what he says about it.

Thank you both for your opinions. Do we really have any control though of the exact intake of calcium, ANY way we offer it? I just thought a powerful, rapidly absorbed calcium supplement may be beneficial - especially to a female leo who has just laid eggs. This stuff has saved the lives of birds of mine on more than one occasion. Bob
