would this work?

I have a ton of questions for making an incubator in the DIY topic, but this is quick and I just need the yay/nay:

If I had eggs in a deli cup with moist substrate, placed in a small tank (not gecko sized, but goldfish sized) set up with heat tape and a thermo, would that work with the appropriate covering on top?

It is my first season, I think I am catching the end of it actually, and I have one pairing for it, so I was hoping this would be appropriate for that circumstance.

How many gallons?
I only ask this because goldfish require large enclosures...but some people still think they can keep them in bowls...so if you could clarify that would be great

Just do yourself a favor and buy a camping cooler or mini fridge. Line the bottom with some flex watt put some egg crate in there to use as a shelf to hold your egg containers you can also put some containers in there filled with water to hold the humidity. This is just an idea. There's ton of youtube videos of people making their own incubators which could give you ideas as well. They really arn't that hard to make.

Or the cheapest easy solution is just to go to a farm store like fleet farm and pick up a hovabator or little giant incubator (same thing) They run like $40-60

Remember to use a good thermostat to keep those temps consistent

Is it possible to get the flex watt somewhere other than online - like would a hardware store carrying them? I can gather almost everything at one stop if Canadian Tire has it.

One girl used an old cricket-keeper and the standard heating pad for a viv to incubate a clutch, but should the incubator have minimal external airflow? Or should it be well ventilated like that? Only thing I'm still unsure of now and it seems like a rhetorical question.

You can use a large reptile heat pad or heat rope instead of flexwatt.
Flexwatt was originally designed to heat the floors and ceilings of houses but I really dont think that it is carried in stores.

You want a well insulated, closed container so that temps stay constant.

That being said, I just noticed you're from ON, Canada. I heard somewhere that flexwatt is banned some places in Canada. Don't quote me on this though

Your local Big Al's will sell incubators, or heat cable.
They had a Reptibator on sale while they were closing, but it's closed now.

PetSmart carries the Reptibator (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11147203, saw if it for cheaper on a reptile supply site but I can't find it atm). I've only heard things about the hovabator, though. Feelers are out now for a free broken mini fridge or a cooler.
