I have a 2 year old Leo who I bought from a breeder who has always had a pretty good appetite. Typically he could eat 10-12 mealies per day, just about every day.
Last fall his appetite slowly decreased over the beginning of the winter to maybe 3-5 mealies per week. The temperature and lighting conditions were all constant but I did NOT have the lighting on a timer. By the end of the winter he was down to 1-2 mealies per week and a little lethargic.
I thought this was just some sort of winter slow down but spring and the beginning of summer came and went. I was never too worried as his tail over the entire time became minimally smaller but still nice and fat and he was still shedding once per month.
Recently I put the overhead light on a 12-hour on and 12-hour off timer and within two weeks his ferocious appetite came back. I live in the NE USA and it's mid summer now and the only thing different is the light. For the past two years he hasn't given a hoot about the timing of the overhead light.
Anyway for the past 3 weeks he's been eating ~10 mealies and 5 waxies every other day. I'm not entirely sure if the lighting and appetite are directly related but I thought I'd share incase anyone else out there is having a similar issue.
