possible mouth rot?

"Mouth and respiratory infections:
These are usually caused by normal bacteria which take advantage of a stressed or weakened lizard; underlying factors such as cool temperatures or imbalanced diets often play an important role in causing these illnesses. Mouth rot causes red swollen gums and sometimes pus, odor or drooling. Cool air temperatures or mouth injury are common causes. Respiratory infections can cause mucus discharge in the mouth or nose which may resemble mouth rot, but the gums are usually normal. These diseases are treated with antibiotics and correction of diet and environment."

found that on a website after a Google search.

Go see a vet ASAP... This looks like a bacteria that could REALLY injure and potentially kill your leo if left untreated. There is some kind of bug going around with leos that affects eyes and mouths that needs an antibiotic to treat.

I personally lost 4 geckos to this disease over the course of the past month- however my leos had far worse cases of it and it took too long to get them into the vet for their meds.

Hope all goes well for you!

same for me and most other people. Good reptile vets are have to come by.
I hate to be mean but If you have that opinion about your pet then you shouldn't be keeping them. any animal regardless of whether it cos you $25 or $250, it has the right to live a happy and healthy life.
I do hope he gets better soon though.

That is NOT what the exam fee means.
If you were a doctor would you expect to see patients for FREE?
If you cant afford the vet, you cant afford the pet.

Exactly. Pay the price for your 'pet'( I consider all mine as family). It is a living thing just like you and me and it deserves to be healthy and happy. A life is more important than any sum of money.

That's just the way it is. Exotic animals are a lot harder to study and train for in regards to anatomy ect compared to your every day mammal which are in many respects all the same and I should know as I'm in the middle of training to specialize in exotic animals.
I don't agree at the steepness of prices some people charge claiming they know about reptiles when really they know jack, however if they are a 100% qualified reptile vet then I don't really mind paying through the nose, these little guys are my family and id do what ever for them. Last year an over night stay in intensive care and antibiotics cost me nearly £600 :S which literally broke the bank but id never dream of letting her suffer.

i never said i couldn't pay for it, i just think its a ridiculously high price when its only $60 to bring my dog in and $85 to bring in my leo

You were the one who said your vet thought geckos were disposable.

Its more expensive because its HARD! Your dog just stands there and allows the vet to examine it. Your gecko does everything in its power to escape.

Vets have to learn all the same stuff human doctors have to learn, but about multiple species. Vets who have knowledge of exotics are VALUABLE. Dogs and cats are seen all the time at most clinics, exotics are not. So yes, knowledgeable exotics vets can be more expensive than a knowledgeable dog vet. Frankly, knowledgeable dog vets are a dime a dozen, exotics vets not so much.

As a former RVT, it's insulting to see people bash vets for trying to run a business. Medical care costs money whether you are a person, dog, cat, snake, gecko, whatever.

I payed only $70 dollars to get a leopard geckos mouth rot fixed, and
my vet was nice about it, she even showed my how to do my own
mouth rot clean up and gave me tips for my beardie. Reptile vets are
more rare, therefor it seems right for them to be able to charge a bit
more and like someone else stated, a dog will let you check up on it
because they are more used to humane hands and see there people
every day. Leopard geckos will be thrashing around sometimes even biting.
