I have two young geckos born in October, one of them has a slight deformity when he/she walks the left front foot turns in alittle so he/she is walking on half of his/her foot. I always have cal. in the tank and dust the mealworms with multi vitamin once a week. Is this from not enough calcium?

I cleaned out the tank a few weeks ago and forgot to put the calcium back in it for a week. i dont think that would do it but i thought i would ask. The sibling doesnt have any problems, and they hatched out normal. I just noticed her/him walking that way one day. They currently live together, and the normal one is the more timid of the two. Any suggestions? do you think it will fix itself.

sorry couldnt get any good pic. he kept running under his hide and the lighting isnt good enough to see anything but blurr on my camera. IT looks like his ankle cant support his foot when walking, its only on one leg and its the front one. what can i do to help this.

Has the gecko been that way since birth, or did it develop later? Are you sure the foot is normally shaped with all 5 toes? I ask because I had a few geckos born with foot deformities which included non-functional feet, so the gecko was walking on its ankle.

I am 90 percent sure that he/she didnt have it when he/she was born. I cant get a picture (hes very flightly) hes/shes not totally walking on his/her ankle just half is. if that makes sense.yes hes/shes got all of his toes. I do have another one that was born with a lack of the forearm.

I think you should get him some liquid calcium. If I'm not mistaken, it works faster. At least thats how it is for humans.

That looks like the beginning stage of MBD honestly, I'd definitely buy some Calcionate Syrup (find on eBay) and give her 1 cc every day until the foot turns back to normal. We had a gecko with similar legs (but it was all of her legs) and so we gave her the liquid calcium every day. She now looks completely normal. Yours is young enough to fully recover back to normal too, good luck :)

so liquid cal. would be good?

I wasnt sure if that was good for geckos or not. so how do you give it to them, just on there nose and they lick it off? she/he is not very tame, i thought it was weird that it was one of the feet, and the other gecko in the same enclosure is normal.

You can get a syringe and give it to her that way. I'm sure you can find those online somewhere too. You just put it up to their mouth and give them a drop at a time. It seems that they like the stuff, our geckos lick it up readily :)

thank u

thanks for the help, the little gal almost has a straight foot. just had to make sure she was getting lots of calcium from over dusting the dubias. They are about 5 months old and still look like girls.do you think they can still change? they are starting to grow really quick the last month or so. eating about a dozen proper size dubias each night!
