Hey everybody I hatched a tang enigma that has severe enigma syndrome even though the father doesn't show any symptoms. It's the only hatchling that showed the syndrome. It spins repeatedly, falls over, walks sideways, and star gazes all the time. What would you guys do? It is almost impossible for it to get it's food. It hasn't grown one gram since it hatched but is passing stool/urate. Would you consider culling? Just wondering btw thanks ahead if time. Brandon

Sad but I would cull it also, but this is the reason I personally wouldn't own an enigma even though I love those orange eyes

Cull. It's not fair to the animal to have to live like that. I agree with stager about not owning enigmas. There's too much heartbreak having to cull them. My personal feelings are why breed enigmas when there are so many other beautiful morphs that don't have their problems? Seems kinda selfish just to get some cool looking eyes and patterns. But that's just my opinion. To each his own. But yeah, you should cull it.

I'm sorry, but humanely euthanizing this little one is the most loving thing you can do for it, and the hobby. ALL Enigmas carry the genetic tendency for the 'syndrome', whether or not they express it. I love the two Enigmas I have left, but this is a quality of life issue that any of us who work with this beautiful morph must face sooner or later. I'm sorry...

So, we breed these animals knowing theres a good chance they may end up with issues and potentialy need to be culled. WHILE we could breed a diffrent strain and have a lowered chance of any of this. Of course deformities and neruo issues can pop up anywhere but in enigmas WE KNOW it will happen.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense to keep doing it! :wall:

Sorry to say but culling it would be the best option and this is one of the reasons I quit breeding enigmas because they almost always have issues and I don't like to cull them as it is very hard.

i bought an enigma based on color a few weeks back (not knowing anything about the "syndrome") and it broke my heart because she wouldnt eat for almost 2 weeks, i thought she was going to die. Eventually she started eating and everything turned out ok....she still walks in circles and wobbles quite a bit... I love her so much =[ just kind of a heart breaker. Sorry about your little one.

I am with the rest, cull it. There is no cure or anyway that you'll make it, "better." Tis one of the responsiblities that come with breeding a color that has a potiental severe side effect. Some are lucky others are not.
