I rescued Babe about 6 months ago. She did not have a good life for her first ten years. She was never handled, kept on sand, poop everywhere, and they would just stick a mini box of crickets in her cage occasionally. Amazingly, she was in pretty good condition.
She is a pretty good eater but sometimes goes a week or two where she stops eating. She had gone two weeks without eating and then I noticed that her eye looked funny. I brought her to the vet last Wednesday and he said she had conjunctivitis of her inner eyelid. The inside corner was red and swollen. He gave me antibiotic drops to use (they have only helped a little). he also gave her a shot of some vitamin A & D to stimulate her appetite. That seemed to work because on Saturday, she ate about 10 worms.
She is kept in a tank in my bedroom, where my cats are not allowed. But on Sunday, my husband didn't notice that one cat snuck in when he wasn't looking. She was in there for about 15 minutes before he realized. That night I saw that Babe had a couple of scratches on her but they didn't look deep. I cleaned them and put neosporin on. But last night, I noticed that her arm and hand were swollen and she wasn't walking right. So, I brought her back to the vet again today. He gave her a shot of antibiotics and sent me home with needles and more doses to give her every 48 hours for 10 days.
She is in the middle of a really slow shed (started yesterday and about halfway done). As the skin is coming off of the scratches, it kind of smells bad, like rotting flesh. She is acting very, very lethargic. She is also staying on the cool side most of the time.
I just was hoping for some comments and advice. Also, the vet is a reptile specialist who I trust very much. I have taken my beardie there for years. Thanks!
