Why put to sleep a baby who can eat, shed and go to the bathroom by itself? I said that he can even close the eye right now. He will not be bred. Not all my geckos are. If it was causing problems, I would have put him down. But just because he's not "pretty" doesn't mean he should die.:main_rolleyes:

because it's easier/quicker and more humane when they are small.

can you say with a certainty that it's not in constant pain?

i recently culled my first enigma hatchling due to eyelid deformities. it looked a LOT better than yours since it had a normal bone structure. regardless, it was unfit to live and died a quick, peaceful death.

would you kill a child with downs?

if he can move sleep eat poop and is active i see no reason to put it to sleep .

it is the owners choice what ever they do

and makeing them feel quilty for keeping a perfectly active animal alive is not right

so what if the animal is not up to be sold to make a profit but that does not always matter i find this with dog and rabbit breeders if its not 100% it should die why ???

I really don't have anything nice to say, so I'm just going to keep quiet.:main_angry:

He's doing great, is active, and growing well.

And, there is nothing wrong with the husbandry for the parents. The next 2 hatchings from them were perfectly normal. You just said you had an eye issue, so is there something wrong with your animals? Probably not. It seems like it happens to most breeders. So please don't tell me that I'm doing something wrong with my geckos. All of my breeders are perfectly healthy or I would not be breeding them.

Those deformities could be caused by temperature/humidity variations during incubation, so I wouldn't just assume the parents had problems. The jaw misalignment looks pretty severe, but if it can eat then I guess it's not a problem. I would make sure that gecko gets a lot of calcium.

Thank you all for your kind words. He gets calcium and vitamins everyday right now. Eventually he'll just get calcium daily with multivitamins once or twice a week.

I thought maybe incubation, too, but so far the other eggs have been fine. The only thing I could think of was that two eggs were stuck together. One went bad and had to be cut off. This was the good one. I did have 2 other eggs stuck together, but both of those hatched with no problems. I've got 12 hatchlings so far (3 from these parents) and this is the only one with any issues.

I was worried about the jaw when I noticed it, but he's eating about 7 mealworms a night right now without any help from me. He finds them on his own, too.:)

I appreciate the support.:)

I'm glad to hear he's doing well. Some deformities are are easier to find the root of than others but what matters is that this little one should have a happy pet life with you or someone else. And just to clarify a term, to cull means to take an animal out of a breeding program, not necessarily kill it.

That gecko is looking a lot better Kristi. The overbite is kinda cute. That's why I had to wear braces as a kid. My left side is my good side too. :D
