I looked in my nest box and saw that the female Tremper Albino Giant had laid her eggs but as I'm digging to retrieve them a third egg appeared. I've heard of this happening but never actually seen it!!:D

I used what's called egg crate for light covers you can get it at any home improvement shop like lowes or home depot. Ever since I started usingit my mortality has improved tremendously, I just take the perlite and fill the water to the top of it then place the cut egg crate over the perlite water. This allows high humidity with no water actually contacting the eggs, and when the eggs hatch the neonates can still walk walk around without me having to worry if they will drown or not. Plus it allows the eggs to breath all the way around instead of just from the top. This is my experiance anyway:main_yes:

I've heard of three egg clutches but have never been lucky enough to have one.

Regarding the egg crate incubation method. How do you prevent condensation from building on the lid and dripping back down on to the eggs?

I haven't had any problems with it at all, I don't know if this is because I poke two small holes in the lid. One in one corner and the other in the opposite corner, but that seems to be the most likely explination.

That's awesome Gregg, I'm glad that it has happened to others out there. In Ron's book it says that there has been no record of this happening, but it is clear now that it probably happens more than people realize.

It is awesome... LOL... I didnt expect the third egg to hatch on the last 3 egg clutch because the first 3 egg clutch only two were fertile... I dont candle eggs so I fugured I would just put all the eggs in anyway... Worked out the last time...

My second 3 egg clutch was the only one that I know of where all 3 eggs hatched... Hopefully it happens for you as well... The more it happens the better... We could build a strong case against some of those books ya know??? LOL

By the way, my incubation method is way cooler... LOL

I actually adopted the incubation idea from you and modified it a little. So thanks for the push in the right direction.

Your incubation method (with the crate) looks a bit tipsy for the eggs. Have you had any problems with them rolling when a little one hatches?
