Thanks! Peggy Sue is moving right along in recovery but Buddy will take longer. He's improving, slowly, but every little step is progress. The indentations in his skull are beginning to fill in, and he has his next dose of panacur tomorrow. Peggy Sue has hers on Saturday. I'm hoping he will want to eat a good meal tonight since it's been a few days. On days between his voluntary meals, I've been giving him liquid food with a pipette dropper. Buddy is a bit of a grump, probably because of all the feeding problems.
Travis has been grumpy about her hand feeding. She won't eat on his own, but then she whines when I stuff food into her mouth. Ahh well. Her princess hat is in the mail...
These two have amazed me in their progress. Peggy Sue had a week of not eating much, but then she shed and now is back to her normal state of ready to eat almost anytime. She's gained weight. Two weeks ago I put the big log in their tank. Buddy immediately became the man. No more of Peggy Sue bossing him around! He was top dog on top of the wood. He's been eating daily for a solid week, but did lose weight from the panacur cleaning him out. Now he's ravenous! A week ago I also installed a new 10. linear UVB since the other was at the 6month mark. Hopefully you can see in the photos that he's put on a lot of muscle in his limbs. Well, now he's feeling "frisky". These two have lived together almost 6 years and never had babies- so he nailed her. Not my plan. Will see what happens, if there's eggs and if any hatch, but I'm probably not going to keep him after he's completely rehabbed and at proper weight. No space for ongoing baby beardies, and I'll be looking to wholesale out the group if anything comes of their mating.
Thanks! Buddy has turned into an eating machine! The indentations on top of his head are barely noticeable now. His limbs are starting to look like Popeye muscles too. What a head bobber he is, it's so funny. Every time I go in the room, he bobs with excitement and hopes of a sympathy worm. They're great, and it's going to be hard to let one go.
Lol. He sure watches every move I make. I try not to let him see me pick up the other pair of tongs across the room, which would indicate a potential worm for him. He really gives me the stink eye if he sees me feeding geckos "his" supers. I have to cover his tank. He isn't so bothered by babies getting mealies tho. I've never seen any reptile make such a turn-around as he has, with a total personality change.
Shawn, they're great. Now I'll finally have an animal to take to our herp society meetings that will be good to socialize with kids and other members. I didn't like taking my geckos out and about that way.
Sounds to me Laney that someone's grown into his big boy pants eros has those popeye limbs too. He comes out every night when we feed the dogs, goes to the highest perch in his viv, gets on his tip toes and high up on those popeye legs... just surveys HIS territory, king of the dog room
An update.......... Buddy has become a garbage disposal. He eats, a while later he's ready to eat more. Food comes near the tank, he's at attention. If he hasn't had his night time meal, he stares from the corner where the dish should be. Favorite food has become endive, he practically runs when he sees that going in. I need to check his weight (he's busy eating right now), but feels heavier and isn't skinny anymore. Peggy Sue is digging digging digging, sometimes in a lay box, sometimes newspaper substrate, Her appetite is off and on. One night she slept in the lay box, and Buddy on the wood. In the morning, she came out and kissed him.. then he kissed her.. she then kissed him again on the cheek. What a sweet greeting. They decided she should sleep out of the laybox, with him. They're definitely a bonded pair, and I believe I've witnessed lizard love:love:
Hahaha lizard love that is too sweet...maybe she's just thankful he's well enough to the man of the viv again so she doesn't have to sounds like you've inherited a pair of dragons
