OK,
Would it be bad to get an adopted one (or one that skinny) as a first time buyer...
I mean its summer so I only have a couple things, I'm around most of the time.
Thanks, Sam

You just have to remember that with one that is that skinny it is very possible that you will face a vet bill and lots of time. I would NEVER discourage adoption. I have several rescues that I love dearly BUT as a first time gecko owner, you may want to start out with a nice healthy one. I would hate to see your first experience with a gecko turn out to be a heart breaker. Best wishes

I think there can be a difference between getting a gecko from a reputable rescue society as opposed to adopting one from craigslist. I would hope that a rescue society would have done a fecal and a vet visit so the gecko may only need to be fattened up. There's no guarantee, of course, and it would be important to ask them what has been done. I just adopted an african fat tail last week from rescue society where she had been for a year. She was in good shape and is eating well for me and probably getting more attention than she was at the rescue, although she was well cared for.

I have to agree with the fact that for your first Leo-you just might want to buy from a breeder and get a nice plump healthy Leo

I am all in favor of adoptions but as was said-you HAVE to figure in vet bills with a rescue in this shape

Good Luck with whatever you decide

Oh and Sandy, you're SO right, trust me, take into consideration the HUGE vet bills that can come from getting a sick lil Gecko...
