hey everyone, i really want to breed my male tremper albino and my female blizzard, im just scared somones gonna get hurt, what should i exspect... thanks for the help
It is a little worrisome the first time because it can be kind of intense. Here's my best take on what to expect that's OK and that's not OK:
OK
male rattling tail; female swishing tail slowly
male making funny jerking motions (if you didn't know better you'd think he was having a seizure)
male either grabbing hold of some part of female or kind of biting his way up her body from her tail towards her neck
female turning around and biting him back
female not biting but walking away, dragging the male with her
--these behaviors are not everything that can possibly happen, but the main ones.
not OK
female repeatedly biting the male and him not letting go
female repelling the male and having him repeatedly come after her again
either gecko biting the other to the point of drawing blood (sometimes after a mating I do see scratches and maybe some sign that there's been a little bleeding, but really deep bites shouldn't happen)
I haven't checked youtube, but if you search, maybe there's a video of gecko mating that can give you an idea what to expect. After you've seen mating a few times, you get an idea of when they need to be separated.
Please feel to ask if you have any more questions.
If your afraid something will happen to your pets then you shouldn't breed them. You have to understand that when breeding a serious risk is taken. Your female could become egg bound and die. Your male could be a little too pushy and take a nasty bite. A lot of things could happen to them. This is something that could happen, and you need to know how to handle a situation where you may have to make a life or death decision. If your set on breeding them then just know that this could happen, and that I wish you lots of luck in producing happy healthy gecko parents! (And babies too^^)
thanks both of u.....what i think im going to do is slowley introduce them to each other for a week then see how they react. also how do u tell if a female is ovulating, thanks again.
