I would just lay it out to the vet. Let him know how much you care for your lil guy and money is bad right now, but you dont want anything to happen to him. Lay the guilt trip if have to. Hopefully he will feel a sense of responsabilty

Let me shed a little light on why a lot of vets require a consultation before they give dewormer....

hypothetical scenario: You have a gecko who hasn't been eating, drinking and has been having severe diarrhea, and maybe some regurgitation as well. Maybe you're seeing worms in the stool, maybe you just suspect parasites. Regardless, you go to the vet, have a fecal sample analyzed and DECLINE an exam. The gecko has intestinal parasites, and needs to be dewormed.

A week later, the gecko dies. Now, who's fault is it? Is it the owner's fault, who declined the comprehensive exam, or is it the veterinarian's fault, for prescribing medication in the first place, without physically examining the patient. Now, the client has a case that they could potentially take to court, and the veterinarian could potentially lose his or her licence, as well as the credentialed technician that is working with them (like ME).

In order to prevent that trainwreck of a scenario from happening, that's why a lot of vet's require a full exam to begin with.
