hey jason, mushroomhead is my FAVORITE band.

i cant stand slipknot any more, even though i will probably still buy the new CD. every since cory taylor called the slipknot fans nothing but a bunch of whiney little b**chs, and the new song sounds exactly like stone sour, its like the other band memebers from slipknot were like "ok cory, just please come back, you can sing that whiney crap, just please come back so we can tour again".... at least thats just my OP.

Haha yeah....i'm not exactly "thrilled" with the direction the band has taken after the 2nd album, but the reality is that almost every band that has any moderate success eventually sells out. The question really is just how bad did they sell out. When i compare slipknot to bands like disturbed, korn, deftones and so on.......i'll still take what they're doing these days over anything the rest are. Corey seems to like to take it out on the fans at times, i think mostly due to the fans not totally accepting his "baby" as in Stone Sour. While i don't hate SS, to me they feel more like they should have come out around 1999 when Staind was relevant. Honestly up until last wk i was dreading the new slipknot album, but when i saw them live they were AWESOME.....sounded even better than in studio. So, i decided to give the new album a shot and so far i like it. It is very Stone Sour sounding but still a quality cd, at least the "hate" is back and they're cussing again.

As far as Mushroomhead, I used to like them a lot more but after the last 2 albums i couldn't take it anymore.....couldn't stand either of them. I also don't like the fact that they bitch and whine constantly about how slipknot "stole their image". While i understand they did the mask thing b4 slipknot did......they weren't exactly the first band to ever do that. And the reality is, make better music than them and you'll have better success. They didn't and never managed to totally make it. I think they're broken up now, or at least that's the last i had heard.

yeah i got what your saying. but i do beleave they are the number one most underrated metal band there is today. they arent broken up, but all the members accept 2 have been replaced, but still go by the same stage names. walen is the new singer that replaced J man, and that was only for the last CD, and beleave me, they are still around, and still going stronger than ever. i do beleave that the only reason slipknot is bigger is cause they were able to jump on bord with ozzfest, while Mushroomhead was always more about giving the fans what they wanted.

I guess that just depends on your preference. While I like Mushroomhead, imo they need work. The band itself is great but the vocals could use some improvement bigtime imo. There's the one guy who does the quasi-death metal rap and then another who sounds something like Layne Staley & Chris Cornell had a crack baby together. Not trying to insult them, it just doesn't fit well at all to me. They need 1 singer that has a real presence & personality if they ever wanna make it big.....but that's just my opinion.

As far as Ozzfest being responsible for Slipknot's popularity I gotta totally disagree. While Ozzfest of course helped them, along with many many other bands that is not the main reason. After they replaced the old singer with Corey they pooled all of their money together and made a demo costing in the neighborhood of $20,000-$30,0000 and started circulating it to record companies, radio stations and so on. Also, Shawn (#6, the clown) owned a club in Iowa and Slipknot became the house band. The demo was a hit, gaining popularity over the net and catching the attention of Roadrunner Records (who passed on signing Mushroomhead just before) and producer Ross Robinson. RR signed the band and Robinson produced the self-titled album and the rest is history. If you think about the time when the album came out (1999) the hard rock community was still riding the Limp Bizkit train and bands similar to that....Slipknot was something different entirely. At the time, the heaviest mainstream hard rock band was probably Coal Chamber (though not that popular), as far as actually being popular it was Korn or Limp.....people needed heavy and that's exactly what they got. In music it's all about timing, it doesn't matter how awesome a band is, if they come out at a bad time they aren't gonna go anywhere. Hell, look at a band like Nirvana....realistically it's not like they were the most talented band in history, but the timing was perfect. They took advantage of a dying hair metal popularity and gave the people something they hadn't heard before. All i'm saying is I don't think you're giving enough credit to Slipknot.

Mushroomhead may be more about their fans at this point, but Slipknot was like that at one time as well. The reality is popularity changes every band, there are no exceptions. You just gotta hope it doesn't completely alter everything about them. One thing that bugs me about Mushroomhead more than anything, they're very petty. Back before Slipknot was popular they would tell their fans to go to Slipknot concerts and throw stuff on the stage at the band (like batteries, bottles and such).....to me that's a band trying to compensate for the fact that they just aren't as good as another.

We could go back and forth on this all day long, either way i like both bands and really, other than the masks they sound NOTHING like each other. Slipknot is a much faster paced band, relying more on percussion than anything while Mushroomhead seems more guitar/keyboard driven. Vocals are nothing alike in the least. All the similarites are on the surface, but beyond that there isn't a lot in common.

I'm not trying to argue or start anything, we're all entitled to our own opinion and I'm just stating mine. It's neither right nor wrong.

NOOOOO WORRIES JASON!!! im not arguing with you in any way....we are entiteled like you said. EVEN THOUGH YOURS IS WRONG!!!! (joking). no i agree on alot with you. right now im just very biast against cory right now cause of what he said, and the fact that i do think they are loosing there touch, and just getting softer. as you called it befor, its cory's baby, stone sour. i will admit this when i heard slipknot meny years ago they were my favorite band, even befor mushroomhead. i turned to mushroomhead when subliminal verses came out, just cause it was soooo stone sour-esk. and i think its cause of the vocals from mushroomhead that makes them my favorite band, the way the clash is whats so great imo. its kinda like tool for me, all the members in tool play different rythems in the songs, and thats what makes them sound so great.

hey, no worries brother, like i said im not arguing we're just talking. lol

ps.. i do have the very original cd with the singer befor cory... MAN DOES HE SUCK. and you are ABSOLUTLY RIGHT on that part.

Haha, good....glad u didn't take offense :). I can totally understand the whole corey thing, nobody is really happy about him these days. I honestly think he's the cause of majority of the problems w/in the group. At this point i wish they would look for another singer but i highly doubt that'll ever happen. While Corey is by far probly the best for the job as the Slipknot frontman, he's too obsessed with being taken seriously by people that shouldn't matter and has become really egotistical. I'll warn you right now, if you didn't like Subliminal Verses you're probly gonna hate All Hope is Gone. It's much much much more like Stone Sour. In fact, out of the 12 tracks only about 3 songs really sound like full on Slipknot. The rest sound almost identical to Stone Sour. It's good technically, incredible band play, corey does a great job and all but this could have easily been called the best Stone Sour album to date b/c it's definitely not Slipknot. I like it but i'm not happy......

Lol hahahaha yeah, Anders was awful. He just did not have the right voice at all, would be much more suited in a death or black metal band. The album was called "Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat" btw :)

Nowadays other than a few select bands i've completely gotten out of mainstream metal/rock bands. Mostly i'm just into more of the lesser known, underground metalcore than anything. Most of those bands make Slipknot look like Incubus as far as heaviness is concerned lol.

For example, listening to the new Bleeding Through album (comes out sometime this month i believe). Talk about brutal lol.
