Certain species just look like rollie pollies. Just tell them that that's what you're feeding your geckos.
Or call them "low ground beetles"
Perhaps I shouldn't advocate lying to parents...
just tell them you have 50 bucks laying around and you cant decide weather to buy drugs, booze, condoms, cigarettes or roaches and ask for their moral guidance.
In all honesty just tell them that at 85-100 deg they take up to 6 months to mature at 70 they take almost a year and most will die before reaching breeding size, because they need constant moiture or fresh veggies. I have had a bunch of escapes at my school, and all I have found was dead ones.
What you need to do is address the parental fears. It is what there perception of the negative aspects that drive their decisions in this matter. Address their fears and show them how these cockroaches, Blaptica dubia I take it? Are not a pest species, they do not climb smooth surfaces and will not be able to live or breed outside of their enclosure made to their needs. Crickets are far more likely to infest or get established in a home than the feeder roach species.

Stick with mealies and crickets for another 3 years then?
Wait till you move out and do it then.
Or, just hide em under your bed.
Whatever.
