Am I crazy!!!

About 5 months ago I decided that I was to busy with my job to continue breeding leos. So after 10 years I sold off everything that I had. Now I am missing it so much that I am going crazy not doing this hobby. I find myself constantly wanting to get back into it. I never really did it for the money, I love geckos... I am trying to decide ( I have to start all over with everything) if I want to do it again. My wife thinks I am nuts. What should I do???? :main_huh::main_huh::main_huh::main_huh::main_huh:

If it's something you're really passionate about, then go for it. Maybe keep things small for awhile.

Same thing happened with me. I'd been raising and breeding leos since I was 13, and when I went off to college, I got rid of everything except a boa and my burm. I went two years with nothing, and then Melissa and I went to a reptile show in Nov '07, and came back with a pair of leos. We've only been back in the game for one breeding season, and we'reneck deep already, with so many plans on the horizon.

Yup same with me, i used to breed leos for since 6th grade but then before highschool i found between sports and school i didn't have much time anymore for breeding so i got rid of most of my geckos except 2. Now as a sophomore I find that I have more time on my hands and really want to get back into breeding not only leos but AFTs and maybe even try something different and try my luck with some cave geckos. this hobby always has a way to pull you back in lol!

One of my worries Is the ever changing economy. You never know when things are going to go bad. i am thinking of working with tremper super giants??? Maybe get into super giant raptors etc...You dont see alot of supers around...

I went through the same thing with bettas. Your interests change but your true passions always come back.

I think the market's improving some actually. Also- It can't get better if you don't spend money.

It's challenging to start small and stay small, but it's do-able. We tend to celebrate the "gecko addiction" here on the forums, and it would be good to hear from people who have been able to stay small. Consider a small colony with enough diversity to allow for a number of years of interesting breeding combinations with the possibility of breeding loans with someone else to increase diversity without having to house more geckos. If you breed at the right level, you'll be able to sell enough to pay for at least your food costs.

Yes Paul, I am very seriously thinking about it. I do have enough patients to grow them up.. I am undecided on what I want to do. The nephrurus or the leo giants.. I cannot decide...:dizzy2::dizzy2::dizzy2:
