This is our boy Tidus whom we've had over 5 years now. We had to take him to the groomer because his hair had gotten a few mattes over the years and so the only thing to do with him was to give him a good ol' shave :D

Here's a few before pictures

He did pretty good at the groomer, we were very surprised! But he wasn't very happy when he first got home, the ride there and back alone made him pretty upset lol. He refused to come out from under the bed for hours until I started offering him some pieces of turkey, after that is history.. he's been getting extra treats and extra love ever since and is all full of himself now. His brother acts like he's better because he still has a full coat of hair, but it won't be long before we take him too :main_laugh:

I'm sorry but i think that's not far on the cat, when my last cats fur got matted we only got them parts dematted. To me that looks like it has been dlibatly made to look like that, please correct me if i'm wrong.

i used to have a persian that durring the summer i would get shaved at the groomers. the reason why i got mine done was because of the heat. he had so much fur and it got so hot here in texas. now he did not get shaved that short but still shaved none the less. also some cats just mat more than others, no matter how much you brush them. older cats hair mats i even asked my vet about it. there are many reasons for matted hair and its not necessarily the owners fault.

I think that's called a lion cut, or the lion cut might be when they leave the chest fur on? If you ask me its better to shave the whole cat if you don't have the time to sit down every day and brush out every little tangle before it becomes a mat<<< had to do this for my boss's cat over the summer, neither the cat nor I enjoyed it much.
Cute cat and he's got a cute name too. The picture second from the bottom has him looking so smug. :)

Haha my cat had the same thing done except the groomer didn't tell us that's what they were going to do! We picked him up with a new haircut they called "the lion cut"! Lol! I love the ball at the end of the tail! :p

My cat would have a heart attack, if she lost anymore hair. haha. (she is 19 years old, and old age is catching up with her.) haha but she is still kickin!

Thanks for the comments everyone, Tidus is blushing haha  We'll finally be taking his brother to the groomer in a few days or so, I'll have to post pics of him too.

The groomer said that he wasn't matted too bad, she had seen a lot worse, but we had been cutting mattes from his hair for months and it wasn't helping very much so we requested a full shave. She asked us if we wanted her to leave a lion tail and we said yes, she chose not to shave too much around the face or legs.

Yeah I know the heat all too well, it gets up to 115 every summer here.. currently November and it was 90 degrees just a few days ago :main_thumbsdown: :main_angry: I have read that older cats get matted more because with old age they groom themselves less. He's a 5-year-old Main Coon and isn't supposed to matte very easily but him and his brother both have just developed so many in the past year or so.

Yeah the groomer was calling it a lion cut, they normally leave a mane around the face but we wanted that to be shaved too. He seems to enjoy it, we thought he might be embarrassed around the other cats but he's been strutting his stuff that much more lol thanks for the comments :)

Oh I like much nicer with his hair that length. It actually looks pretty darned cool like that. If you go to have it done again, I would get it shaved to the length it currently is. =D

Haha, my boyfriend's family has a black and white long haired cat with the same hair cut. Too bad that cat hates me (my nick name for him is Satan Kitty so I guess he has at least one reason to not like me).

Sara, I really like it at that length too :) We still need to go get his brother done but have had to put that off for a little while longer. He's going to be the funniest to see because he's so chunky :main_laugh:

Chelsea, I bet he is very pretty :) We've had to deal with a few Satan cats ourselves, my brother had one that we named Satan because it was just such an aweful/mean cat. Our Tidus, the one pictured here, made Satan poop itself, he scared it so bad. I have never seen anything actually poop itself from fear, it was pretty insane (and I gotta admit, a little funny considering we didn't really like the cat all that much).

Yea he's pretty, but very mean. Good thing he's also de-clawed though, he's taken a swing at me for just walking by him more times than I can count. What's kind of funny is my boyfriend absolutely loves that cat, and gets mad when I call him Satan Kitty but come on... You know some animals just have it out for ya:main_laugh:
Wow, I've never ever seen anything poop because it was that scared. Pee, yes, but never poo XD
