something I'm curious about after one of my leos ate a boiled piece of chicken.
how is the nutritional value of it compared to insects? is it unhealthy or ok? it's not fatty like pinkies, so..what do you think?

Leopard geckos didn't really evolve to be able to digest bird or any other kind of meat, and their diet really should consist of insects ;)

It will give them protein for sure, but not much else. And animal proteins are a little harder for your leo to digest than insect proteins. The next poop it passes will smell horrible because of that. It will be just fine, of course, but I don't recommend making that a permanent food for them.

Well known, and yet, animals can sometimes easily adjust to new diet in variety of situations.

the poop was actually very normal...I do wonder if it may do harm or maybe it's ok. the idea is not to be used as permanent food but in times of shortage in the insects amount, to give them something that is healthy and they like.

NO, your gecko should not be fed chicken.

Stick to superworms, mealworms, and crickets..

if you want to feed a reptile chicken get a tegu or monitor :main_thumbsup:

Well...as a biologist I'll need an explanation for this...
As a fact, they CAN digest it and it seems to be nutritionally ok, so why not?
and again, not as a staple food, but from time to time.
If you know why nutritionally chicken isn't healthy, I'm all ears.
